If he owns the original and lives in the USA then backing it up is illegal
If he owns the original and lives in OZ then backing it up is perfectly legal
It used to be legal to back up an original that you own in the UK, but sadly I dont think it is no more as we have followed the USA, the law of fair use has been scrapped here :-(
I wonder what the law is in other EU countrys, wonder if they've followed the states too?

It is worng though you should be able to back up your original, I mean the kids wreck the discs eventually no matter how theya re looked after. I paid £40 for the software on the disc I didnt pay £40 for a 5p dvdr and a 15p booklet. But when I ask microsoft to send me the software I purchased as the 5p disc is scratched, or please allow me to back up my original they said go f*%k yourself :shock:
