Help please. Most likly screwed already.

So i have a modded 360 form aug 08 (last of the easy flashes i think) and it was running on LT 1.61. I havnt been using it since the dash update and has never had a connection. I was slacking off and wasnt in a hurry to update since i wasnt really using it.

Now i woke up to find my dumbass roomate playing a xbox live arcade on it and he updated the dashboard. I unplugged it but still it was online for 30min+

Im guessing im screwed and my xbox just became worthless??

FYI, the dumbass who updated it had modded xboxes before and he was such an idiot that he didnt think to make sure what xbox he was using. He just wanted to play

If it won't read your backups, then you'll have to reflash. Your drive won't be as easy to flash now, you'll need to use a probe to extract the key. However, it's still super easy. Download the latest jungle flasher and check out the .pdf guide it comes with, you'll see exactly how to do it.

As far as being banned, you're probably okay. More importantly, if you're still able to load your saved games and whatnot, then even if you were flagged, you didn't lose any data. That means that once you reflash to the new firmware, things will continue to work as normal. And, since you don't hook this up to Xbox Live, then you're totally fine, because they can't ban your console without a network connection.
