Ok i encountered a very strange problem while installing a x2.6 on my friends box.

After a failed wire install, we decided to scratch the whole modding thing and just return his xbox to normal. After we removed all traces of a modding attempt, we stuck everything back in, and booted it up. It went to the time changing screen, then it froze up, making popping noizes and strange lines going up and down the screen. When we booted it up again, it rebooted 3 times and on the third time flashed RED AND YELLOW. this is not mentioned in the forums. can anyone please help?

i unfortunately have seen this. you broke a trace somwhere on your motherboard. if it was a file on the hard drive the flubber screen would have come up and then it would have told you that your xbox needed service. if you can find the broken trace and fix it you should be alright. but if you can't its time to pick up another box. sorry fo the bad news

Popping noises? Sounds like a short somewhere. Check the metal shielding on the bottom for black marks. It may be that you had some solder hanging off the bottom of the board and that touched the metal shielding.

Pretty much sums it up.

When installing you get pretty close to a couple traces that lead to the AV pack... or the chipset that controls the graphics and sound for the xbox. This is especially true on ver 1.0 and 1.1 - 1.5's.

Sounds like you dorked that up... just buy a new MOBO off e-bay... thier around $70.00 or so.
