I need some help getting my xbox upgraded. I would like to upgrade everyting on the system to the newest version saving only all the saved games that are on the box. I am pretty sure that I have a xecuter2 installed but I am not totally sure so lets start at the beginning.

1. How do I find the version number of my xbox?
2. How do I find the version number of my chip?

Are you capable of cracking open your xbox to look at your mod chip? I believe there is a table of the past and present chip varieties somewhere at xbox-scene. You could match them up.

It's not possible for me to open the xbox.

I found out that its a SmartXX chips that installed in the system. And when I boot the xbox, I get a xecuter message under the xbox logo.

So, can anyone help me with descriptions on how to upgrade my whole xbox? I would like to keep all my saved games, and have the hdd cleaned so that it only contains the nessesairy files for the SmartXX.

to be honest you really need to do some research your self but I will try and give you a basic rundown, you are proably going to need to do some research yourself or have atleast a basic knowledge of networking, FTP, computer use:

First the Xecuter logo is coming from the bios you are using - as it is an Xecuter bios that stands you in good sted for a start!!!

1) To backup your save games you need to FTP your TDATA and UDATA directory from your XBOX to your PC. I would recomend backing them up to a cd or DVD for safe keeping.

2) If you are planning on wipeing your hard disk I would suggest doing the same with the whole of the XBOX c drive aswell.

3) With regards to reinstalling all the software you need as you seem new to this I would suggest using AutoInstaller Deluxe - contains most uptodate software that you would need for your xbox - do you have a DVD writer?

Here are some links that might help you out:

http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php?p=#0 - Some fairly good guide for people new to modding under the Beginners/General section

Infact just read as much of the Tutorial section as possible. It is basically impossible to spoon feed you through this process - you need to do the learning yourself really. We are all happy to answer specific problems but just to ask how it is done from start to finish is impossible. I have been burnt by this before - trying to talk a Noob through things and when something goes wrong due to lack of basic knowledge getting the blame - not going through that again. It's not hard - you are better off spending a week reading than a month fixing things when it goes wrong.

Anyway, theres some basic info you get started with. Come back with specific questions if you need more help. Good luck

PS

are you actually having problems with your XBOX? if you are only playing games and it works for that purpose sometimes it is best to use the "if it aint broke dont try to fix it" theory!!!
