Help with bios flash on version 1.1

I'm having problems flashing the bios. I have a 2.6 chip in an xbox version 1.1 and I've tried flashing with the x2.4893 and the x2.5035 bios and no luck. The closest that I've got is with the 5035 bios. It'll boot up to a screen that says x2 config live loading but then it just boots up normally and after that the error 13 screen comes up but it's cut diagonally in half. Anyone know what to do from here??

the bios works
13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

is it a new hard drive
was it softmoded
are all your leads hooked up 100%
