Hi
I would be grateful for some assistance with flashing my Liteon DG-16D4S 0401 drive.
I have modded my previous (phat) xbox, but this was some time ago, so I have a little experience with flashing the drives. I now have a slim with the above drive and am trying to flash it (unsuccessfully at the moment).

I already have an xecuter CK3 pro kit (which I have used previously for flashing my old xbox drive).
I have been searching around and have discovered that in addition to my existing CK3 pro, I also need a X360USB Pro to connect to my drive (this is on order), as well as an unlocked PCB (which I haven't ordered yet).

I have found a tutorial which shows me how to replace the PCB on my drive (which is fine). However, there is a section in the tutorial which deals with removing and replacing the MT1335WE (whatever that is). The link is here:
http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67283
My question is, do I actually need to do the soldering bit of the tutorial? This is something I really don't want to do, as this may well damage my board if I don't do it right. I'm not sure what this chip (MT1335WE) is, so I'm not going to mess about with it if I don't have to.

I've searched and searched but can't find a definitive answer, so if anyone can assist I would be grateful (I'm not ordering a replacement PCB until I know for definite)

Many thanks in advance.

like Ghost said. On the 0401 drive that would be a kamikazie witch drilling into the IC is required witch is worst then the soldering lol. But your best bet would be to buy the Unlocked PCB from xconsoles and read the firmware and key off of your drive ( doesnt require anything hard) and write it to your unlocked PCB. Although you will have to solder because theres 6 wires on the Bottom of the PCB and like 3 ribbon cables to be detached and reatached to the new unlocked PCB/

Hi
Thanks very much for the help. Looking at the PDF you referred to, I'm assuming that if I use my existing PCB then I have to either follow the PDF instructions or follow the soldering guide mentioned in my OP?

Thanks for the suggestion of the replacement PCB - I think that this is my best way forward. However, I'm in the UK, so Xconsoles.com may not be the best place for me to order from.
I have found an item in the UK:
http://www.ck3.co.uk/liteon-dg16d4s-unlocked-replacement-pcb-v11.html

Is this the same item as Xconsoles are selling (I couldn't see the PCB on the Xconsoles website, despite searching). I'm assuming that if I order one of these boards, I just swap it with the original and then I should be good to go with flashing the drive?

Many thanks once again

make sure to read your key and firmware off of the current PCB before you replace it with the unlocked PCB. just look at team xecuters list of resellers. theres plenty of them all over the world and they all ofter the same product ^_^

Thanks guys, you've been very helpful and I really appreciate it. I'll go and order myself a replacement PCB as suggested.

Thank you once again.

Hi
Sorry, but I need some further help if possible
So I bought the X360USB Pro and the replacement PCB. I have successfully (as far as I can tell) dumped my firmware to dummy.bin, etc
I have removed the original PCB and replaced it with the new one. My drive now looks like the photo in this thread:
http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68101

All well and good so far

However, I'm now at the stage where I need to flash the new PCB and I have 2 problems:
1. When I power up the drive (with the new PCB attached) with my CK3 pro, I can't eject the tray using the eject button.
2. When I connect the drive to my PC (via the X360USB Pro) jungle flasher does not recognise the drive.

I have double checked my wiring (against the picture in the above thread) and it looks fine.

Am I missing something? What am I doing wrong?

As a matter of interest, when i connected the wires to the additional block which came with the PCB, i stripped the plastic back to reveal the wire, before screwing them into the block. Is this correct or do I need to just put the (unstripped) wires in the block and let the clamp pierce the plastic covering? I'm hoping that this is a red herring but thought I'd better mention it.

Any help would be appreciated.

replacement PCB's are shipped blank...needs firmware written to it before it will be recognised or eject

stripping the wire is correct , otherwise no connection !

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.
OK, if the PCB is blank, how do I flash it? Do I just follow the jungleflasher tutorial, even though the drive is not recognised by JF? The screenshots in the tutorial show the drive recognised, so I guess that's where I'm getting confused?

Thanks again for the help.

Hi again
Sorry for the above post. Just re-read the JF tutorial and I think I've worked out what to do
It's the old adage RTFM I think....
Thanks very much for the help though, much appreciated.

Well I now have my next problem....
When loading the dummy.bin, everything is OK.
When I load the new iextreme firmware, everything is OK, with the exception that the drive keys are different - the iextreme key is all "F"s. The JF tutorial states that they should be the same.
I can continue to put the drive in vendor mode with no problems, but when I get to the point where I try and write the new firmware, I get a message saying that the drive hasn't been spoofed and do I want to continue.
1. Do the dummy.bin and firmware bin files have to have the same drive key?
2. should I click to continue from the "drive not spoofed" message?

2 hints. If you load the original dummy.bin the allow JF to autoload the target firmware. Source will be spoofed to target by default. If your choosing target firmware manually or flashing to stock, then use the big long button called 'spoof' . . .

Hi
Well those hints certainly helped! Thanks very much!
After following your hints, the rest of the flashing went well, so I'm off to test the drive. I'll let you know the outcome.

Many thanks to all of you for your help, it's much appreciated. :D
