help with hitachi drive

Hi, just wondering if i can have any ideas as to the basis of this problem, i had my drive flashed a good 4-6 months now, everything was working fine with my backups, however recently i have noticed that games will not read first time, and the drive makes a ticking noise when this is happening (error being unrecognisable disk/open tray), the cd's are in perfect condition and do sometimes read. Could this be the result of my laser being damaged as the xbox was bought on release date, i had tilted my xbox once by accident and it damaged the game that was in their. Do i need a new laser?

Probably need a new laser. And if you tilted the xbox with a game in there while it was running you probably did some damage to your laser

Also could be cheap media - have you tried using Verbatim bitset to DVD-ROM and burned at 2.4x ?
