Help with large home media project.

I'm planning on integrating an xbox 360 into my tv cabinet along with my windows 7 PC and wireless router to make an ultimate gaming/multi media station complete with glass cabinet to showcase my collectors edition games and movies etc.

Now cracking my PC games is easy, so that part is sorted. However I am looking at buying another 360 to put into the case as the one I have is back home and I'd like to keep it live worthy.

My ultimate goal for the 360 is that I will be able to have all my games played off a 3.5 sata HDD while having the latest or relatively recent dashboard. I do not need it to play these backups online, however if there was a way to play legit copies without getting banned that would be good.

Now I have read all over about JTAGing only working on dashs under 7xxx or whatever version it is but all the info i find about it is rather old.

I'm still unsure as to which mod I need.

I have a few questions about all this.

1. If I want my xbox to play backed up games off non-xbox 360 HDD does JTAG limitation of the dash 7xxx still apply?

2. If it does apply and i end up purchasing an xbox that does not support JTAGing is it possible for me to install some type of chip that allows me to switch between legit dashboard and homebrew dashboard much like the original xbox? I have seen the Xecuter chips but I do not fully understand them and cannot find anywhere that fully explains how they work and what version/s they work on.

3. If modifying my 360 to use homebrew is not possible then I will have to buy a drive modification as it will be necessary, from what I have seen. I don't really mind this option but my main goal is loading games from HDD. So if I do modify the drive and play backed up games offline (not bothering with stealth or anything) will my xbox be flagged and banned next time I log into XBL?

4. I don't really want to have to go to the trouble of re-flashing my drive/patching my games everytime new stealth firmware etc. comes out. So if i play offline with obviously backed up games and I flag myself, is unflagging constantly a good idea? Or has M$ been catching on to this stuff?

5. The X-drive. Does it require me to burn discs as stealth copies or not? (I will do some more research on this tonight, but why not ask anyway)

I apologise for the long post but I have fallen behind in the xbox modding scene and need some help deciding what it is that I need to do to get this project going.

Thank you in advance :D

To be able to jtag an xbox it has to have 7371 dashboard or lower....that is the only "limitation" is the exploitability. Once you have an xbox jtagged, you can updated it using jtag tools to the kinect dash 12625. Seeing that you obviously don't know much about it, I would recommend either buying an already jtagged box or finding one that is exploitable and sending it to someone to do for you.

No. The only thing you can do with a nonjtag is just flash the drive to play backups.

As long as you are using the newest stealth firmware (LT+ at the current time) you should be fine for playing online with no risk of ban or flag.....but it's always POSSIBLE that can figure it out. (I don't trust playing online with backups of any kind)

4. I don't really want to have to go to the trouble of re-flashing my drive/patching my games everytime new stealth firmware etc. comes out. So if i play offline with obviously backed up games and I flag myself, is unflagging constantly a good idea? Or has M$ been catching on to this stuff?
You can't really "unflag" yourself if you have been flagged. Best thing to do is just stay offline if you are playing backups.

5. The X-drive. Does it require me to burn discs as stealth copies or not? (I will do some more research on this tonight, but why not ask anyway)
Not sure on this one as I haven't followed the x-drive device...sorry

Okay well I just found me a box with the 7371 dash so I think i'm gonna go for the JTAG. I was quite into the original xbox modding so this type of stuff isn't out of my scope I just need to do a bit of research so i'll get onto that asap.

Just one more question about JTAGing.

If I play online (with orginal 360 game and jtag dashboard) after playing offline with backed up games will I get flagged for a ban? Or is it just using backups on live what gets you banned?

I am assuming I will but i'd just like to be sure.

Oh, and thank you for the great reply =D

No matter if you use original or backup copy of game, don't expect to be on live for more than a few weeks, at max, if you are JTAGing.
