RGH Help with my Jasper freezing... cpu_rst??

Hi again.

I need help with my Jasper freezing, I have now got an official CR (I HOPE - see pics) and was hoping it would fix the issue, but it is still here.

Problem: Freezing in game, with no in game trigger or predictable time elapsed.

About the console: No freezing before RGH. No over heating, temps no higher than 47c on the GPU and lower for all else (have always used additional fan mods). Never had RROD. No bad blocks in NAND.

Pics of installation and CR (some wires are not standard colours as I was trying a fix I had seen using Kynar):

Screen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.15.22.jpgScreen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.15.51.jpgScreen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.15.58.jpgScreen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.16.13.jpgScreen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.16.22.jpgScreen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.16.31.jpgScreen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.43.17.jpg

What I have tried:

Different wire positions for A and C on the bottom of the board - currently using the recommended positioning for A and C on the bottom board, down to a few milimeters
Swapping the wire on the bottom of the board to Kynar
Insulating the wires on the bottom of the board with electrical tape and foil (4 times in foil then in electrical tape and also just a load of electrical tape either side)
Routing D on the bottom of the board - caused freezing on boot (something which I have never had with any other wiring config for D)
Using WNYConsole's Slim trick and cutting 50cm wire for D and coiling on SB (without caps)
Using the coax in the recommended position with and without shield grounded - causes boots of varying times some over a minute (especially when warm)
Checked Mplayer for xbox to see if it was an SMC issue - but it gets to the menu and doesn't freeze

Current state:

I believe the issue may be with the cpu_rst because the placement (when trying various different solutions) affects the frequency of freezing. Anything from after 5 mins of game play, to nothing for 4 days. The best I have come up with so far is coiling 50cm of wire on top of the optical drive which gives near instaboots 99.9% of the time and cuts down freezing to every 4 days or so. However, it causes problems when using the optical drive. I can move the coil to the fan shroud, but this is not as stable. Having the wire like this also produces the best warm boot results (instant).
Screen Shot 2013-07-01 at 23.15.32.jpg

If I use the coax (grounded or not) for cpu_rst, I get boots after anything from 4 to 13 attempts and freezes daily.

I really would be open to any suggestions at this point as I feel like I have tried most the solutions that others with this board and similar symptoms have tried/done and succeeded to resolve their issues.

Thanks in advance :)

I will check. I have no. 1 on, am I right in thinking I can only have 1 dip on at a time on S4 - so turn 1 off first?

Ok, just tried with only no. 4 on s4 switched on, and it's not attempting to glitch at all. No flashing green light.

EDIT: just some more info. When no. 4 is on and it doesn't try to glitch, it looks like the fans are pulsing quickly. About 3 times a second, like its constantly resetting.

Have just tried no.4 on with coax. Same result. Have I just got a really "highly strung" console? :p

Have I done these correctly?

They are all going to be individual for the most part so just try different dips for now. Try ALL the s4 dips off. Start with 1 and 5 again on S2 and go from there. (Yes that is the default setting for the LK spots)

Ok I will turn all off on S4 and give that a go. :)

EDIT: with all off on S4 it glitches, same as with it on. I will see if that freezes. I also tried each of the others on, and I get that same pulsing of the fans and no green light flashing.

Well no freezing yet but I will need to test more tomorrow (it's almost 1am here now) as sometimes it goes for hours/days without freezing. I'm not too worried about boot times yet, I just want to not have to save every 5 mins :p I have a pretty free day tomorrow so I'll give it a good caning and see what happens then report back :)

With RGH1 you may not need any S4 switches that explains the fans etc.

Well fingers crossed it makes a difference having all off. I didn't have as much time today as I thought as something came up. However, I did manage to get about 6 hours in and so far no problem. I will keep testing tomorrow. The longest it's gone without freezing is 4 days with approx 12 hours use a day, so this is a bit of a waiting game. Out of interest, what does No.1 on S4 do? I had it switched on because of a tutorial I was following but the CR3 lite page on the forum here lists it as N/A? I'd assumed it was a cap like the others.

Damn. It just froze again. It has been absolutely brilliant for the last few days of testing, and was absolutely fine earlier for a few hours of gaming that I managed to get in this morning, but I booted up just now and it froze 3 mins into game play.

What is the next step? Do I start trying combos on S2?

And again.... 3 mins into game play. It seems to come in bouts. It will freeze non-stop for a while, then I think I have changed something and sorted it, it will be fine for a few days then it goes back to freezing frequently again :(

Unfortunately, I have been using that all along. I have replaced it with a larger drive, but it's in the MS caddy.

Are you leaning towards it being an issue not related to the CR or my wiring then? Unless I have 2 issues causing freezing. The only thing is, I have tried 2 drives in the caddy as I started off with a 750GB then changed it to a 1TB. Both drives are new.

Is that solder point on your pll bypass touching anything? Hard to tell from the angle. I have had some hdd issues when they were on there way out etc give me freezing but if they are new that rules that out for now.

I'll get another pic of pll bypass either tomorrow or Wednesday, but pretty sure it's just the angle. A and B were the ones I triple checked because they are so small but doesn't hurt to look again. Just to rule it out I am testing at the moment whilst clearing the hdd cache before every session. I only had to clear the hdd cache once on my old xbox in all the years I had it so I'm skeptical that this could be it - but worth a try. I've also changed rst again as it occurred to me that I haven't tried running kynar near the heatsinks on the top side of the board (I only tried this with coax - but this jasper doesn't like coax too much). In terms of interference on rst using this config, it's not frozen so far (about 6 hours gaming) and glitch times are within 1-3 attemps.

I always run over the fan shroud and have had no difference on what cable I use. If you have not gone over the fan shroud try that. RGH1 is usually bullet proof. I am sure you will get it.

Thanks :) I know I'll get there, just a few last minute tweaks ;)

Here is a pic of pll_bypass - it doesn't look like it's touching from this angle:

Screen Shot 2013-07-09 at 20.27.43.jpg

I finished the main cosmetic changes this evening :)

Screen Shot 2013-07-09 at 20.28.57.jpg

I still have to do something about that fan sticker... either replace it with something else, or rewire the LEDs so I can flip it, but it's nearly there.

I'll be quite busy tomorrow, but will keep testing with new wire placement and HDD cache clearing - and post back in a few days or whenever something happens.
