Ok,

over the last 2 weeks i have preparing and improving my soldering skills.Today i recived all the neccessary parts for my rgh on my SLIM trinity. i ran out of the soulder i normaly use so i ran out to maplins and bought some lead free solder with the excat same ingreidents 99.3 percent something and 0.7 copper alloy. and i think the solder was allot larger than my old 0.6mm and this one was 1mm. ok So i stared the proccess felling confident all ready 2 go. I stared soldering and relised it was takkkking agggges to melt the solder with my 40watt soldering iron (fairly heigh) and it would not melt unless i added massive ammounts of pressure and this was dangerous as i was slipping and dammaging my xbox and kept on buring my self :( so i gave up on soldering the qsb and took out the cables and desodered the points i had mannaged to barly solder on to the boaed and qsb. I then cut the end of the qsb wires so i could directly do it with wires. i then became stressed with the crappy solder and kept on bridging the joints. i could no desolder these bridges so i used a scalping knife to get rid of the solder and then gave up and had a break. I then took the risk to turn on the xbox and it booted perfectly. I need some help and i have ordered some different solder from amazon, it should be coming in 3-5 days so i need some quick advise and also i have cleaned my soldering iron and tip and soaked it in warter so thats cool now. I then went back on to my practise xbox and tryed to solder a point and it wouldent even attach to the board(I'm using rosin flux pen) i really need some help thanks :) ash

lead free solder is garbage, it's like trying to work with treacle,
try to get hold if some 22 swg 60/40 leaded solder it melts at a much lower temperature and flows like water when it's hot enough,

you should not really use the iron the way you are number one thing is tin the tip of your iron if you dont keep the tip in good condition you will never solder well end off as you will get a build up of oxide and will not get good heat exchange from tip to component nor will solder wet right there is some good soldering help on here and even youtube take a look

Ya good flux is a must. I've been using silver solder which seams to work great but needs a really high temp to melt. Also allot of people say the iron doesn't matter but they are full of it. A good iron makes a world of difference.
