A co-worker gave me two new X3 (not X3 CE) chips to install on his v1.4 XBOX (1 to install, 1 for payment for install). When I tried to flash (w/flashbios 3.0.0) the 1st chip via HTTP the flash stopped halfway through on the 2nd pass. Same thing happened when I switch the banks to try the backup.

When I tryed the 2nd chip the flash via HTTP worked as expected.

So, I went back to the 1st chip and forced it to the flashbios screen by holding down that DVD-eject and the power buttons but when I tired to flash this time I got the "bad bios flash halted!" message.

Any ideas/suggestions on what to try next or what could be wrong? I am going to try to flash via FTP and DVD when I get home to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Firstly what file are you flashing?

second check that the on chip flash protect is off..u should have a red light on the x3
make sure the switches r set correctly on,on ,off, off, off .

And finally try it with no external switches attached

The actual error message is "unknown flash! Halting"

I've tried 3108, 2914, 1959, 1943 BIOS images with no luck. My co-worker told me that he purchaed these X3s when they first came out and it looks like these chips do not have a protect/unprotect LED (is that possible?). I only see 2 blue lights.

I do have the protect switch set to off and I've tried with the switch disconnected with no luck.

I also tried flashing via HD using the 3108 BIOS and got the same error message as before "unknown flash! Halting".

Any ideas on what I did wrong? Like I said in the eariler post the XBOX works fine with the 2nd mod chip.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

sorry didnt read the post u r right u have the older x3 with no flash protect led...

did u remove the switches at the x3 chip itself to rule out the wire loom trapped under the controller ports?

Yes, I removed the switch from the X3 itself and got the same result.

Can I send the chip some where to get a new flashbios put on it? Would that help?

well u have flashbios on there..u need to put on a hacked bios ...it is illegal to supply the x3 with this bios pre-installed.

I have read a post in the distant past where the same problem occured.
In that instance it was fixed by setting switches to a 256k bios (bank 8) flashing a evox 256k x2 bios to it ...
then after installing evox dash...runing the x3 erase xbe (i thinks thats packed in 1959).
others have simply returned their x3 to the supplier and the replacement solved the problem.

X3 flash problem

Hello,

Kimba is actually a colleague of mine and was trying to install the chip for me. I actually bought two of the original X3 chips from a company in England. Kimba was able to install one of these chips w/o a problem, but the other does not work as detailed in this thread. Is there any way that I can send this chip to Team Executor so that you can figure out what is fragged with it and return it to factory working state if possible. If not exchange it for a working chip.

This is one of two new chips that I bought and have finally got around to installing. If you could help it would be great.

Regards,
Tim
