I bought an x3 and an xapt3r. well i went ahead and installed everything just fine. got the flashbios screen, put in the dvd, flashed bios succesfully and the xbox shut off. I turned it back on and it turns off twice and then frags the third time. The X LED is "purple" oddly enough. Yes i flashed with the swtches as on-on-off-off-off. all lights r on. all 3 blue and red d0 on the xapt3r and two blue and one red on the x3. Installed the eject/reset adaptor also and no matter the coimbination, i still get frag w/ purple x led. What can I do?!?!?!?!?!?

v1.0, x3ce, xapt3r, x3cl3029.bin (not1.6)

ohh. the d0 led blinks when the mod is not on the xapt3r but comes on when mod is on it (can see through chip) is this normal?

one comment b4 I start blabbering. You sound like a person who did his homework well prior to installing your chip.

Anyway, in your situations, there are couple of things I am thinking off. Try this for me please. Unplug the X3 control panel switch cable. Press power and eject buttons at the same time to get to backup bios and reflash. If flash goes well and system boots up properly, you may have a bad cable/cp switch or bent pin some where.

Try also to use the eject button to power on and see what it does. It could also be that the power/eject adaptor is faulty but I suspect it's the above problem.

thanx. i did study. :)
anyway, no such luck. no matter what it frags.
interesting though, when i disconnect the d0, it STILL frags. I thought frag was for when the d0 was connected properly. possibly i need to scrape away some laqer from the d0 and try again?

Does the xbox boot ok disabled (press & hold pwer ..red X)?

If so then d0 is working ( u can select enable & disable of x3 via button) so leave it alone.

did u do what nartac said and remove the switch bank selector...if so did u remove it at the x3 chip??...do not disconnect it at the panel as this does not rule out the cables to the switch bank.

Then boot backup (press pwr & eject to get a purple x) and reflash.

no it doesnt boot disabled. no matter the combo it just frags w/ a purple x led. yes i took the switch bank selector off and that didnt work either (even at the chip itself) and i even tried booting w/out the reset/eject adaptor and still the same!
any more ideas?

only to remove the xapt3r...clean up the lpc holes with some degreasing fluid (i use lighter fluid)..and reseat it.

There is a bit of a problem too with the design...the more u tighten the screw it tends to lift up the far end of the adapter...u could try a little pressure on this end and see what happens

none of that works. Do u think tht it could just be a bad flash?
if so am i SoL or is there a way to recover?

P.S. I hav heard of 'hacking' the xecuter 2.6 programmer and using the xecuter 2 bios manager to flash the first one meg of the x3. any1 know how?

I never got my Xadap3r to work with the X3CE. I ended up sending in my Xbox 1.0 to have it professionally installed. I've had the Xbox back for a little over a day now and it works perfectly with the X3CE and the X3CP I installed myself. I strongly suggesting just spending the $50 or so just to get a soldered install if you have any aversions to soldering (which I do). It's well worth it.

I have a version 1.0 xbox with the X3CE. I paid someone to solder mine cause I was hesitant on doing it to my system... it works fine. I soldered someone else's oddly enough (their loss if it doesn't work, not mine) and theirs works fine. They had the 1.3 Xbox.

Did you consider that maybe your X3 Chip was a dud? Maybe you shocked it taking it out of the packaging? I realize if someone studies up on something then the odds of this are slim, but it's still a possibility...
