well my first post is going to be plea for help so apologies up front...

heres my scenario...

V1.6 crystal.. previous fitter attempted an install of a spiderchip.. fragged the box to the max somehow...

so i had it pushed my way....

symptoms...

on Boot Error 16 unless you put a disk in the DVD drive in which case Error 06

fitted an xecuter 2.6 booted to flashbios no problem...
flashed with 5035.... reboot still same errors.....
thought these bios had a bypass for Error 16 ?
even tried a repacked slayers disk with main exe renamed to rescue.xbe (as it mentioned in readme file for 5035 that this would boot in event of nothing else working........)

other thing i noticed was the introduction of the ini file for this bios.... i have assumed the err16 bypass was on by default... maybe im wrong.....

anyone got any ideas....

would be really good to get this sorted as its been in my posession for a while and the owner is bugging me his box back in whatever state... i'd like to get it working if at all possible....

respect

the error 16 normally means that dashboards file are missing, where as error 6 means it cant unlock the hdd, are they dashboard files on the hdd, what happens when you boot with the slayers disk in the drive, try formatting the hdd and installing slayers, it may just be a case of missing files but the hdd may be going wrong.

it wont boot DVD's at all in its current state....

i've just tried putting in an unformatted 40gb HDD and using slayers to prep it... still getting error 16 at power on....
so i prepped the same HDD in my V1.5 box.... no problem.... temporarily locked it and msdash worked ok....
unlocked it and put it back in the 1.6 and still error 16.!!

next plan is that i have another 1.6 in to mod.... am going to do that... temporarily unlock its HDD and see if it boots in the duff 1.6.....
as thats effectively a virgin HDD from a brand new one so has all required files..... if this has no effect then i'm stumped....

any more pearls of wisdom i can try ??

update... think i've found the problem ... decided it had to be IDE related as the bios is clearly ok as the animation runs ok... it would have fragged with an invalid bios image...
looks like previous installer was very careless with tools...
have found a ding in the topside of the board in the traces going between the IDE port and the MCPX chip.... 2 clearly broken traces in a parallel bunch of 10 or so....
now for some fun patching the damage...!
I'll try and scan a pic of the damage to show y'all....

sorted ... it was 3 broken traces....
patched between IDE port and MCPX with some .1mm poly coated et viola its back in business !!

moral of this story

never trust amateur oafs with your xbox .... especially if they think its cool to poke about with a size 1 flat blade screwdriver.!!

at least i will retire this evening happy in a job well done......

until next time...
