Ok, I have a problem. I'm a noob to all of this and am confused. I installed the chip properly, burned the DVD to flash it, Got the xbox to read it. Then, the whole yellow bar would fill, and then the green bar would fill halfway and wouldn't continue. I waited for two hours and nothing happened. I turned it off, and tried again. After a few hundred times, I began to play around with the switch (I had read and properly did the switch, i have one of the nicer switches that lite up and have buttons). EEKK! and now, the flash menu won't even come up! I turn it on, it flickers, sounds like a drive is booting, then it stops and the power led flashes. I then later thought that the bios may have not been working because I was using a DVD-RW, but now I can't even prove it. Help me!

Try booting the backup BIOS (power and eject buttons together). Get your 1MB X3 BIOS onto a CD per the tutorials, set the switches to on on off off off and flash it.

Thanks for the help. The backup worked, but i still have the problem where the yellow bar fills and the green bar goes halfway and stops. Does anyone have any ideas? I still think it maybe my DVD-RW (Sony), but i'm beginning to think differently...

also remove the switches at x3 chip itself (to rule prob with switches or cable)..boot backup and reflash

To Clarify, removing the cables for the switch automatically sets the Flash to 1MB bank 1, so you won't be confused.

Now there is ALWAYS the possiblity of a solder mishap, but if you feel REALLY sure of your soldering, and want to resolder only as a last resort this worked for me.

I did a pinheader install on a 1.6, and I could barely get it to flash properly, and used 3 different sources to get the bios. I desoldered 5 times, and always the same.
IF I could get the flash to finish at the end it would say "Programming Failed", sometimes the Bios would let it boot to a dash, and sometimes not. Even when it would run a dash and games, etc, it would NEVER go to X3CL period.

After a while I noticed the chip never went flush onto the header. In a possibility that the pins bottomed out and caused a problem I decided to pull the chip slightly up.
Now, all of a sudden BANG! Works every flash.

I put this story all over the board, but wth, will it matter if you spend 10 mins trying this out rather than 2hrs of desoldering lol!

Ok, I able to get it to flash, but now when it automatically turns off and I turn it back on, all it does is the same thing...the switch is set right, etc.,so...I'm once again stuck.

What? Sorry, I'm new to this. I'm flashing it w/1959. I'm doing everything correctly, so the only idea I have is that my modchip is fried...It just dosen't remember it. No "Rox My Box".

theres not been many faulty x3's out there..so i'm reluctant to agree.
have u flashed with no bank selecter switch connected? (disconnect at the x3 not at the switches).

Also grab the latest 3108 bios ...1959 was ok but not the latest and greatest.

Remove switches... boot backup flash and reflash with 3108..
If that still comes back with the same then i guess your one of the v few with a duff x3

No - the problem is still most likely your soldering or a connection/config issue. Remember if you set the switches to unprotect, on on off off to flash, with the exception of the protect switch leave them as is to boot from that bank.
