well...after sucessfully installing 2 1.6 xboxes, i figured installing on a 1.1 would be easy. until the desoldering part. well that didnt work out so i did a wire install. soldered all the wires, and the do/hd/lan thingy. It didnt work(no suprise there) but the most depressing thing is that part of the IDE cable got lodged into the DVD drive when disconnecting it from the xbox. this doesnt directly have to do with the chip, but can anyone help me? do i have to buy a new DVD drive? if so, will any model work or does it have to be the same brand? thx for help in advance

What do you mean part of the IDE cable got lodged in the DVD drive? Do you mean the black connector came apart?

yes. the connector broke off of the IDE cable and one part is lodged in the DVD drive, the other part that held the whole thing together simply broke off.

You should be able to pry that part out of the drive with a small flathead screwdriver.

If you look there is a notch in the plastic connector of the DVD drive. You should be able to get the screw driver in there.

I'm too lazy to get a camera and open up the Xbox, but here is the general idea.

theres something in there...normally, wehn you plug the IDE controller in, it fills that area. the thing that fills that area and the 40 pins is lodged in the drive.
