Hi i recently modded a 1.6 box with a 2.6 xecuter and solderless adapter for a friend and all was fine, i had installed evox and chip was working fine on and off so the nest day i give it back.

He takes it home and somehow manages to change the switch to bank 2 - being a complete idiot and ignoring all i told him he starts to play around in flashbios and as far as hes told me he unlocked the hdd and perhaps other things and the box shutdown.

He asked me to fix it and so i had a look at it. The box would start without the chip pluged in or disabled but with error 12 and FRAGs with the chip on. I took the chip out and tested it on my own box and found it had reverted back to cromwell 2.0.8 (i think) so i reflashed both banks with Flashbios 3.0.3 and then bank one again with X2 5035 and the chip works fine on my box.

After reintalling it in his box the same problems occur so assuming the hdd needs to be locked i switch my drive with his and load up my box with my chip on. I get the evox dash and all seems fine - i load up configmagic onto his hdd and run it and find that the hdd had been unlocked, so i lock it and then boot down. Replacing his drive i find that i still frag with the chip on but with the chip off or out i get error 6.

Any help with this?

Sorry about the terrible spelling etc

Edit: After playing about the switchs a bit i have the box with the chip on starting and the screen reads "Xecuter Config Live Loading......" and stay here while the eject likes flash green/red - although after rebooting a few times this hasnt happened again.

Error Codes Explained (click me)

9 - kernel - HDD parameters (PIO/DMA/or size {debug}, certain size minimum is required for debug)

12 - kernel - DVD parameters (PIO/DMA)

Thank you for the info on error codes. Im guessing that the only way to lock the hdd is to get the chip working again and thsi is what im focusing on so could anyone help me with this?

With the chip on the console FRAGs but occassionaly the Xecuter Live Loading Screen Appears but then the console seems to stall at this point. Im pretty sure the chip is fine and when i put it in my own console it works perfect. The adapter shows all connections are fine on the m/b. Any Ideas?

Yes, you have to lock the drive in the Xbox it will be used in. But, neither of your error codes deal with the drive being locked or unlocked.

When you tried it in your box, did you use your switches, or the switches that came with the chip? That may be your problem.

ah i used my own switchs - ill try the ones that came with the switch and get back to you - would the fault only be in the swicth or could there be a problem with the cable also? Also the chip was working 100% before my mate got ahold of it. Does that make a difference?
Thanks

It would likely be in the switches unless you pinched a wire when you put everything back together. Since it worked before he got it, I would be inclined to think it is a problem with the switches. Big_Whoopin made a nice schematic to help you test the switches with a multimeter.

did more testing today with the switchs and wires - also checked the switch with a multimeter and all resuls came back good - Im really stuck on this one guys - had something happened to the actuall motherboard perhaps as the chip and connections all seem to be in perfect working order - and if this is the problem where can i buy a replacement m/b?

Thanks

Are you sure there isn't something your friend isn't telling you? Maybe the adaptor isn't making good contact. Make sure the DVD drive isn't putting pressure on the chip.

my friend seems to have a "selective memory" and cant remember what exactly he did - he seems to think he picked an option and a swear word appeared on screen then the box powered down and it started to FRAG - i have no idea what he was on about - ill have another check with the chip contants etc and most of the time i test with the dvd off the chip incase the pressure does effect it.

A swear word appeared on the screen? Cool... ;) What software did you have installed on there? What dash?

I don't know if the guy that first helped me out with modding had created the setup this way or if it was a config shared about the net, but I know that when I used his EvoX config to flash a chip I believe the warning dropped the f-bomb. Likely as "you can F up your system if you don't know what you're doing here!" By any chance did the install include EvoX (slayers is EvoX under the hood, IIRC) and have a BIOS folder with included files? Possible he flashed an old BIOS?

I just learned this evening that while a 1.6 BIOS on a 1.5 or lower board will generally produce a clean boot with sound but no video, a 1.5 or lower BIOS on a 1.6 board can FRAG. I had preprogrammed two chips that I was installing with the assumption that the boxes would not be v1.6. Turned out they were, and when booting one bank I'd get a FRAG, while booting the other I'd get no response but a solid green light. One bank was 5035_old, the other an apparently incompatible FlashBIOS. Don't recall which result went with which BIOS.

Generally I'm the one cursing at my Xbox (or rather, the games), not the other way around. :D

hahah thanks guys - ive got the 1.6 bios on the box but ill recheck later - i asked my friend what appeared on screen and managed to get some more info - i had installed evox on the hard drive fine etc but somehow the switch was changed to the second bank and he thought this was what he was getting (although i had told and shown him otherwise) and he ended up playing about in the flashbios menu - hes gottebn to the stage where he just wants his box fixed - chip or not - im really stuck on this one myself.

Ok, this is just a shot in the dark, but if you have been getting errors 9 and/or 12, have you tried a different IDE cable or made sure all connectors are seated properly and no pins bent on the hard drive, dvd drive, or mother board? Also, on the no power issue, if you have been moving stuff in and out of the xbox, if the power connector for the dvd drive is put in upside down (it is possible), it will cause the box to not power up at all and you have to wait 5 minutes or so to even try again.
