Hi I am Gary.

I been modding the 360 since day one.
I just wanted to post this real quick, if its ok.

But someone please answer me this question:

I flashed allot of drives for people, But I have these 3 guys that always ask me to show them how its done.
I always give them the same answer , Search GOOGLE.
I tell them, if you can't research what you want to learn, or if you can't read and follow directions Then you shouldn't be modding anything. Because if I tell you how its done, you wont learn anything. You will most likely brick someones drive, and not have a clue how to unbrick it. And on top of that, you will call me up every 5mins asking me what to do next, or what to do now. If your to lazy or to slow to learn on your own, then your to lazy or to slow to mod anything.
I ask them, "Do you want to be spoon fed?" Because I'm not spoon feeding you!

And then they get mad at me, because I won't show them how its done. I learned everything I know just from google. I never asked anyone how to do something. Why can't they do the same thing I did?

Am I wrong for not showing them?

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

If they are to lazy to research anything related to what they want to learn then they don't deserve to be helped. With all the tools that tx releases for both flash and rgh it's really easy to mod xbox360s.

Search and read. Google is free. If it's not on Google it doesn't exist

Amen, I'm with Martin here too, self-taught everything I know from the Xbox1 days up to doing RGH installs and Kamikazes..as well as everything I know about general electronics, soldering, programming, reverse-engineering, the list goes on. One of my many choice phrases I've heard and think bears repeating: "Google is your friend." So yeah, I'd say you're totally right telling them to figure it out themselves, cause if they just learn to push a few buttons, what happens when they hit the wrong buttons and kill somebody's drive? There's a great tutorial for JF out there, and far too few people read it.

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

Mmmm being "self taught" bear in mind a whole bunch of theory has been worked out by others hence the "google it" so i wouldnt be so hasty as to say we are all self taught; practicals yes theory erm i think not ;
also a great percentage of "learning" is by not making the same mistakes twice (we all learn by mistakes no matter who you are)
My opinion is i have no issue passing on any knowledge to assist others being capable to do the things i can do and rather than say to another "google it" i would link them to the article ;
There again we are all diff breeds and i also see, more so on this site, arrogance breeds arrogance; politeness has no coin

I would by no means say I'm an expert but the work that I have done on consoles I have read as much info as I can first. I have had some help along the way from people on these forums which I am extremely grateful for. But like everything in life you have to learn any skill or craft. The only way of doing this efficiently is to gather as much info as possible and read then practice.

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

^^ Self taught means reading whats available, Using trial and error, And figuring it out for yourself without asking, i.e. What do I need to flash my drive, What do I need to RGH, What dashboard am I on?, When all the information is readily available with a little bit of searching.

Edit: There is times when you need to ask a question, When you've gone through everything. But asking how to do something when there is a full tutorial on it and not searching a bit and expecting a step by step is wanting to be spoon fed and not learning anything.

That's more than half the people in the world. They just come straight here with reading anything and start asking the same thing everytime. I swear if half the people would read martins road map we wouldn't be having this many issues.

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

I'm with Martin, I have read everything I know about the 360 as well. I have done 1 jtag and one rgh and tried xenon rg gb and ripped a pad tugging too hard, and a crappy iron. Ya live and learn, don't use crappy equipment. But I love this forum, lots to read and learn from.

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

I have always said there is a great digital divide. On these forums that also includes a technical divide. There's those that get it and always have and then there those that don't and never will. It's how we are wired as human beings and there's nothing we can do about that. I think of it like playing a musical instrument or being artistic. I suck at both and I know that. It's just a shame that some people don't realize their limitations and screw up an expensive piece of their entertainment center and still can't except they are on the other side.

But ya, I agree with Martin as well. Everything technical I know has been learned at the school of hard knocks. My occupation is in programming proprietary controllers used for automation. I've never been to school for it but I've managed to fight my way up and earned respect and a good paying job doing it but of course..... I get it. Not as much as some but a lot more than others. :)

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

Of course in any learning curb research is utmost; all am saying is i would rather link to assist rather than tell em "go look for it themselves"; and i would put that down to diff generations as the mannerism of todays youth on the whole leave a lot to be desired and if the way of today is to react to others in life as some do on forums well its just plain sad

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

I think like the most of here, just use Google first.

I started with RROD repairs(first Clamp-Fix then Reflow but I stop with Reballing because I don't have the time for that any more to busy for that now), then flashing the drivers, then came JTAG and then RGH.

Importend is read, read and read again to be sure and then start with what your planning to do.

Re: I'm not a Noob lol

I am simply saying just read everything on the subject first, before you go and ask how to do something. If you don't read and at least try to learn on your own, then the chances are you want understand anything i teach you either. Anyone can learn to press a few buttons, but if you don't know why your pressing them buttons, then whats the point? Your not learning anything. If you give the person A little info, without them searching around first, then they are always going to want that support. Why do that, when everything you want to know is just a few clicks away if you google. Reading and researching is your friend. I even taught my mom how to use google. Now she googles everything she wants to know. I am addicted to google, and so is my mom now. lol

I even tell people, if you go on the Xecuter forums and ask noob questions like this without researching first, you will get flamed lol. We won't spoon feed you.

As i stated yes research is utmost but really guys google! ; i mean all the time wtf
If ya want to learn something about cookies then ask a baker/cook ; damn these members are coming to your site to ask specific questions about consoles, really do you want them to think google is more appropriate or this site where they believe experts are and if the fore then whats the point of sites like this

It's not that. It's just they ask questions that have been answered so many times. All they have to is search these forums. Most of the answers to there questions, are in the stickies. Modding is about researching. The answers are just a few clicks away. No one wants to answer the same questions over and over and over again.
