thanks for the advise, rather than pi$$ing about with this hitachi 47, should i just flash the hitachi key to my sammy and use that? is that plausable? my xbox is live but if i use it with the sammy for purely offline play will that work or will it be somehow logged for when i convert back and insert the ethernet cable?

well,spoofing is def not xbox live or dash update safe,in order to do a dash update you would have to put old hitachi back in it,but as far as games playing offline,since the xbox itself came with a drive that does not do ap2.5 it should be fine to put the sammy in it,but you wouldnt be able to get by with that when say ur xbox came with liteon,which does do ap2.5,with a sammy,which dont,itll throw red light error on every ap2.5 game.so its not recommended what ur asking,but can be done yes.

you could also take the laser from the sammy and put it into the hitachi for testing purposes.

if its easy to swap lasers over i may do that test?

however being my sammy would be compatable with my hitachi 47 console(non ap25) i'd be quite happy putting my sammy in the conole for offline play, the sammy must be a decent drive as my cheap media runs perfectly on it so i guess it makes sense

a simple switch of drives for dash updates sounds quite reasonable to me. im not over looking anything am i?!

laser swap is pretty simple,and if it works well nuff for backups in sammy,should work fine in sh*tachi.

ok chaps, was looking into the laser swap idea, decided to clean the lens with electrical contact cleaner before swapping lasers, and that sorted it, i cant believe my 360 lasted for 7 years knowing now how twitchy they are, anyway, job done.

thanks for all your help guys, i'll leave with one bit of info that has saved me dollar, i use aone plus media which are £4 for 10, i install every game onto my 320gb hdd and the discs perform well, never failed yet. its all about intalling games to the hdd and the discs last. regards, ben

good ya got it workin with just cleaning it,if it stops working any time soon just replace the laser.
