Borrowed a sil 3112 pci card off a m8, now the drive shows up in my computer as a dvd rom but only shows up in device manager as cd-rom not the real model number. The sata card shows the correct model number on boot. When I try flashing the drive it gets stuck at the getting drive key stage and also applications fail to run until the drive is unplugged. The current driver is 1.0.56.1.

Now i persisted with this problem for several hours before removing the sata card and putting it in my GF's PC, what do ya know... worked first time! Dunno what the difference was, same drivers. Her computer is XP Pro SP1 and mines SP2, also different motherboards.

Does this SATA card (Rosewill RC-201) use the SIL 3112 chipset?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132001
or http://www.rosewill.com/product/product.aspx?productId=718

Really need a way to let windows XP/Vista to recognize the 59 drive.

That has a sil3512 on it (you can see a close up picture of the chipset on newegg). I can't say for sure whether that will work or not - not the same chipset as mine.

Finally I am able to read/flash Hitachi 59 with a Via 6421 SATA card. I have to do the following:

1. Windows Vista ( I have ultima edition)
2. Update the drive of Via 6421 SATA card to 5.40a
3. Plug in SATA cable after the vista start to load.

Thank all's post. Greatly appreciated!
