Now not only cant get it into mode B with SLAX method but the drive refuses to open...
Do i need a new drive....

power everything off check all connections are secure and try again....but saying that it sounds imo that you may have bricked your drive.

When the Mods see this they may have a resolution but i'm not sure mate stick tight i'm sure you will get a response as soon as they can just keep checking.

**To all other members please do not flood this thread unless you really know what your talking about as too many responses can add confusion.**

Try using the two-wire trick and see if that puts the drive into ModeB. Worrying about the risks of the two-wire trick would be kind of pointless now, as the worst thing you could do is brick your drive.. which you may have already done.

The two-wire trick isn't as bad as everybody makes it out to be. Just make sure you're shorting the correct pins and don't hold them connected for a long time and you will be fine.

If you can get the drive into ModeB using that, you can restore your drive back to the original firmware by running restore.bat X in the Maximus-GaryOPA 2.3r2 firmware package. (X being your Hitachi drive letter)

When the drive is restored, you can also try reflashing the drive with the hacked firmware.

Ok, what exactly did you do? Did you restore and then reflash the drive? In your case, i may have a tool which you can try. It is based off of Seventhsons program that we currently flash the drives with (flashsec) but with an alternate mode. It uses commands that resides in perminant memory, not ones that you can flash over. Assuming your checksum on the firmware is fine, you should be able to use it. You do not need to put it in modeB to flash (from what i understand).

The link can be found here:

Use caution if you are going to try this. I do not recommend it to anyone who doesnt understand what he talks about in this post or on his web page. If you already have it 'bricked' then you can't do much more harm.
