This is my first post...

hello... here's my question. which has probably been covered many times before..(sorry)

i have an Hitachi drive that is 47 ROM VERSION that has got a defective logic board inside it-(this is my original xbox360 drive)
i also have a spare Hitachi drive in full working condition but it is a 78 ROM VERSION drive.

what options do i have to get my xbox360 up and running and Xbox live legal.

Do i need to get hold of a replacement 47 ROM version board (PCB logic board) and flash that with the original 47 logic boards firmware to get it running again.. or is there a way i can use the 78 drive legally.
luckily i managed to get the firmware/key from my original drive.
i want the console to be legal i don't want to play backups or anything like that.

I have a via card installed in my PC and i have jungle flasher installed too and know how to use them. I'm using an old unused (no drive-ring of death xbox360) to power the drives when flashing...

i read somewhere that using a spoofed drive IE: 78 ROM version spoofed as a 47 ROM version on Xbox live is a "no,no" the console could get banned from Xbox live due to the new dash version...am i correct in thinking this..????
again what are my options.. thanks.

original Hitachi drive 47 ROM version (faulty internal PCB)
replacement drive 78 ROM version (Fully working).

Honestly, I would just install the 78 drive in the Xbox (with the right key of course), as a Hitachi drive indicates an old Xbox I doubt it would be worth to invest in a new 47 hitachi drive for such an old Xbox 360 (unless you can get a cheap used one or something). You will most likely be fine on live for as long as this console will live, but of course, if you want to be 100% certain on live you need a 47 drive and flash that wit orig firmware.

hi thanks jant90 for your reply.
i have managed to get hold of a 47 logic board from eBay its been tested and is working.. when it arrives i will fit it into the 47 drive
and flash it with my original firmware/key..
I've read online that using the 78 drive can cause an E66 fault.. with the bottom right quadrant lighting up red.. which i believe is indicating a firmware mismatch between the motherboard and DVD drive....

please correct me if I'm wrong...
