Hi guys. Nice site.

I recently updated the firmware on my hitachi 0078fk drive using the maximus utility. I tested the hack by trying it with a backed up dvd movie. The movie played fine so i assume the hack works correctly.

However after burning a backup of tiger woods on do verbatim dvd-r using imgburn, I get the message 'to play this disk, please insert it into a xbox 360 console' when i try and play it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Psy.

Testing with backed up movies will not confirm that your firmware flash is working correctly. These should boot regardless of the hack, assuming they are on a compatable media.

When you put in an original, what happens? Check that, as it seems to me that your drive key may not be correct. Either that or the backup was not made properly.

Also, i assume you mean DVD+R DL verbatims.

Ah i didn't know dvd movies would boot even if the hack didn't work. PGR3 and Halo work fine on the console. I looked over the tutorial again and I am pretty sure everything was done correctly. Would it be worth reflashing the drive? and what's the easiest way to confirm the flash has worked correctly. And no they are DVD-R DL. Only difference there is the - and + type.

Yes, i understand the difference between media but i didnt think that -R DL was readily available and i dont know how well it will work with your hitachi. If your originals are working ifne, it isnt a key issue. Try using +R media (verbatim) and see if it corrects the problem.

Are you sure the backup was made properly?

I wasn't implying you didn;t understand the difference between the media, just checking you didn't misread:). Does the backup need creating in a different manner than if it was created for one of the other drive types. I'm not sure if the backup was made correctly. My first time at that also :). Is there a small utility or iso 360mods offer to test a firmware update?

No, all backups are the same. I just wonder if the security sectors were properly injected/patched to the backup.

As for testing your flash, there is no real way but to try a known working backup on your drive (eg, one that works on another flashed drive). The only other thing i can think of is to actually dump your entire firmware (if supported by firmware toolbox) and physically check for yourself.

I have the original and hacked .bin's on my hard disk still. If i load it into the toolbox it says it contains the hacked firmware. I'll have to try and find a working backup though unfortunately noone i know has a backup i can try.

Oh i remember imgburn telling me it could not tell where the first layer ended and the second layer began just before burning. I entered the value out of the .dvd and clicked continue. i don't know if this would make any difference...

You should actually load the .dvd in imgburn to burn. But, if you entered the value, it should have put the layerbreak at the correct point.

Yeah, DVD-R DL will not work because the Xbox 360 requires a custom layerbreak and you cannot set a layerbreak using -R media. Only with +R DL media can you set they layerbreak, as well as bitsetting.
