open xbox case
disconnect dvd drive sata
attach my spare sata cable to dvd drive then to laptop (via usb to sata adaptor)
start jungleflasher, then power up xbox.
set to mode b.
when mode b set, put audio cd in xbox.
unlock 79.
dump dvd drive on laptop

Yes, But ive never flashed with a laptop so not 100% sure on that, i'd use a PC if you could... Everything you said is true But if your having problems with your JF/laptop picking up the DVD drive Try restarting laptop with Xbox still on and when Windows is Loading, open and close Xbox dvd drive to help windows load it, Here are afew things you should do has flashing Mate..
Always keep the JF tut open so you can go back to it if you make a mistake,
Keep laptop on something solid So it doesn't overheat when flashing
PUT AV cable in Xbox so it doesn't auto turn off during Flash.

Doing this sould make it a 100% success flash but I do worry about 1 thing, If your using your xbox To power the dvd drive then it might damage your Drive "small chance" but it has been known that Not grounding the Xbox case to PC when flashing can brick the dvd drive because the PC and XBox uses different voltage. If your flashing using laptop try looking into using a CK3 to power dvd drive and Not xbox.. Also if your going online It has been known that M$ can See if you've turned your xbox on without a sata cable in, Remember flashing xbox using xbox has power means the Xbox's sata isn't connected because its in PC...
I personally use xbox to flash drives But I use a Spare xbox, this way ive not turned the xbox "im flashing" on without sata in :)

I personally use xbox to flash drives But I use a Spare xbox, this way ive not turned the xbox "im flashing" on without sata in
does this mean the xbox will not be banned from xboxlive?

If the xbox has no Av cable in the xbox will auto turn off after afew minutes, Alot of people brick there xbox because they try flash without the Key or .OFW and has they flashing "without av cable" and their xbox turns off, bricking there drive and forever losing there xbox... So it is important to Have the AV cable in, Dont need the End of it in your TV, just the Xbox's end inside the xbox...

I brought an xbox off someone who tried flash it and failed, now its useless or a DVD player, So when flashing someone's xbox I take their DVD drive out their xbox, Put the dvd drive in my one" flasher xbox i call it" then flash there drive using this xbox Not theirs, The reason I do this is because there Xbox isn't being turned on without Sata cable in, im not 100% sure if it does But i've been told if you Flash an xbox, when you Turn an xbox On without the Sata cable from xbox to DVD drive it sends a code to the xbox which will be seen my m$... So turning xbox on well it's connected to your Pc isn't good, So use a CK3 to power drive or another... You don't need do this, I know someone personally who lives on xbox live and He flashed his drive using his xbox and he's not been banned but me personally Won't risk it, So you can flash the drive using your xbox But I would recommend using another xbox if you've got one, or if you wanna start flashing other peoples xbox then invest in a CK3 or something :)

Mark,

if i use the following kit should this be ok?

(from uk power supply to ck3 connector)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110V-AC-1...-/130583927891?pt=PCA_UPS&hash=item1e67689c53 (from uk power supply to ck3 connector to power it up)

(from ck3 to dvd drive power supply?)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280755789581&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

(from laptop (win xp) to dvd drive)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270798734379?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 (from laptop (win xp) to dvd drive)

should this enable my hitachi drive to read, set to mode b and flashed along with JF and firmware?

Do yourself a favour and visit modtraders.co.uk and order a ck3i and x360usb pro, download the official jungleflasher tutorial and go from there, forget about those usb/sata adapters you speak of, we did release JungleUSB drivers some time ago now to use with compatible usb/sata adapters but these have been superseded by x360usb pro, for sure.
