K. so i flashed my 78 Hitachi. Jungle flasher reads it, the pcmcia card and everything is hooked up right.

JF tells me that the flash is good and i followed the video tut word for word with no problems.

I am running

windows xp laptop
using pcmcia card and ck3 pro
jf 0.1.75 beta
hitachi 78

The drive is reading dvd's, but not orig games. i dont have any back ups to test it to see if its reading those, but i was wondering why it wont read games?

the drive works, the laser works, it was reading everything just fine before.

but now its just dvds and i put a game in and it says "play DVD".

Could i put it back to orig and re-flash it? or is it toast?

If its toast i have another 78 hit. but when i try to flash it all i get is the "ram upload" error.

But id like to get this one working before worrying about that one.

Anybody else have any ideas?

Sounds like the wrong key is flashed to the drive - have you got the OFW (original firmware file) when you dumped the drive? Or at the very least the JF log?

As long as you'll have the key, you'll be fine - the drive certainly isn't bricked (yet).

And the 78 Hitachi will need the 79 unlock audio cd - have you downloaded this? You need to run the unlock in order to dump/write to the drive.

I'll be on Live tonight, if you also need more advice.

Are you sure of that? Cause I didn't need one to flash any 78 drive before including the one I done this Monday gone!!!!!!

I was just surprised to see that comment. I know Hitachi drives could be a pain in the a$$ to flash but I never needed to use an audio CD to flash any 78 drives or below. Last one I did was a bit stubborn and wouldn't go into Mode B or sometimes open until I done it few times along with power cycles and eventually it worked.

Yip, just mode B required on a 78, Unlock 79 CD required just for a 79 as these guys have pointed out.

Sorry peoples - my mistake!

Although we still haven't helped in with his "ram upload" problem - perhaps a VIA card issue? Try a different port - on onboard port if your mobo has one?

Check the guide in my signature for you problem.
Does sound like the wrong key. I'd try to restore it back to stock and see what happens.
Then flash over win api rather than portio. That's my personal preference. Hitachi drives are difficult, some times you've just got to keep trying.

Flashing 360. co. uk no we haven't solved it yet but we'll have a go. Fortunately we're not all inventing things which don't work like unlock 78.

We are still waiting to know whether if he's got the original firmware dump from the drive or the DVD key from JF logs!!!

the odd part about this is hitachi's are the only drive that to change the key when modding.

you have to actually write the key sector, it is not flashed when writing firmware to their drives it's an untouched sector

I didnt spoof it. I just followed this video http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53985

that is in the video tuts.

Everything he did is what i did.

I do still have the orig firmware on my laptop so i can just flash back to orig. (i can just click "restore firmware" in jf under the hitachi tab right?)

The thing is i got this drive from an xbox with a bad mobo and threw away the mobo. And now i have another xbox with a hitachi (so i have 2 drives) and that is the xbox i am using to test the drive.

Could that be my problem? Should i spoof the key from the 2nd hitachi onto the 1st hitatchi?

Now as for the one with the "ram upload error"

what would i do for that? This guy

http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51966

says to use the xbox as the power source. I am going to try that right now.

I dont have msn but i can download it and we can try the remote assistance if you want

and if anybody on live wants to help me i can hop on there.

feel free to add me

lolz. There's your answer. So you just got a spare Hitachi drive which you flashed with ixtreme firmware and used it on your xbox without getting the key of the other drive.

You need the key from the drive that's inside your xbox and spoof it onto the spare Hitachi drive you got from the broken xbox.

Get Team Viewer for a remote session if you're still stuck ...

ok. Spoofing it worked and now it is reading games and back ups!!! sweet. Thanks for all the help guys

(future reference... i never got the "ram upload failed" fixed, i just did a classic dump and saved the key and spoofed it. and then flashed the drive. so if anybody has a comment on how to get the ram upload error fixed, let me know. Its a v47 hit.)
