I have a Hitachi v79 and the firmware is defiantly corrupt. I can still detect the drive in Jungle Flasher, but I'm not able to right the stock firmware back to the drive, due to JF says it can't determine the drive rev and then it aborts.

I know the firmware is corrupt and needs the original firmware written back to the drive. What app or what is the correct way to force write the original firmware back to the drive.

The drive is not bricked!!! JF detects the drive just find, but will not enable me to write to it due to aborting because it cannot identify the corrupt firmware.

Can someone help with a procedure to force writing the firmware back to the drive?

Thanks

JF says it can't determine the drive rev and then it aborts. I can detect it just fine, put it into b-mode and also unlock it.

I'm sure there is some app out there which will allow you to force write the firmware other then JF. JF has a lot of safty steps and when it can't tell the rev of the firmware it aborts for safty reasons.

ive had afew problems before with hitachi 79 drives where jungleflasher has found the drive and will say it can all the way up to when u get to mode b, then it doesnt. but in mode b windows assagines a drive letter to the hitachi. does the hitachi have a drive letter where ur hard drive and any other drives show up if you click start/windows symbol and then computer?

just go as far as you can with the process in jungleflasher and save your log, then post it here, makes it alot easier to see problems.

No, it assigned the drive okay. I went to device manager and found it just fine. It's not a problem with finding the drive; it's not able to write the firmware to it. It aborts, due to unidentified rev of the drive.

open hitachi tray using ck3.

Drive rev undetermined, Aborting!

I have tried tool box ver 4.8 and it just locks up.
iprep (no luck)

I know what happen, I was using tool box 4.8 to update the sectors to the 2.0 firmware and after the second sector it froze!!!!

Now I have this "Drive rev undetermined, Aborting!". Weird thing is the drive responds correctly in windows and in the XBOX. I still believe if I could just force write the orginal firmware back it would be just fine.

But that's how the old ball bounces......
