Hitachi vs. Samsung Firmware

Just curious if xtreme v5.2 firmware has more functionality than the Hitachi v2.3? I know flashing process is vastly different, but is the functionality the same?

If not, what are the important differences?

Functionality is slightly different - Among the pros for the Sammy, it has support for single layer DVD's (although we don't yet have a process for creating single layer backups, but this should be coming soon), and it has some work done on it to make it more tolerant of bad media.
