hey i have a Hitachi drive that does not work anymore but i also have a philips & benq drive that works can i replace the Hitachi with the philips drive. If so what would i have to do.

You have two choices - repair the original drive or replace it with another Hitachi drive (if it is a pre-78 Hitachi drive, you can replace it with any other pre-78 Hitachi drive, but Hitachi 78/79 drives must be replaced like-for-like).
However, if you are working with an RGH console, you can put any DVD-ROM drive in there, but you still need to make sure that the drive key is correct.
