The post says its all,
I just bought a holiday xbox, afraid it would be 1.6b, instead I found that it in fact had samsung ram. 12v fan(I think 1.0's had 10v but I could be wrong). And the best thing samsung dvd drive 605 capable of reading everything.

So if you're worried its a 1.6b you're buying don't be.
My xbox was made 10-13-2004.

not true in all cases. i have the holiday xbox bundle and while i have the same dvd drive, i have hynix memory. my xbox has a mfg date of 10/7/04. so.... YMMV. how do you check the fan??

my holiday pacakage xbox made 9-20-2004 is a 1.6b, came with the two games, has a phillips drive, but you know what, the sh*t still works great

I just finished one of the holiday pack box's for a co-worker 10/19/04 and it was a 1.6. sounds like they are putting together what ever parts they have the most of at the time.

I bought it in the US, virginia to be specific. I agree that it may be just random. But I have noticed that somewhat later dated xbox's such as 10-10-04 and up seem to be 1.6 and not 1.6b. But thats not a fact, so don't treat it like one. And it was the one with topspin and ncaa football. And how did I check the fan, I read it on the top of the fan, 12v.

And since this is now in v1.6b help, I bought a x2.6 from system-mods. The flashbios was 3.01 which means it wouldn't have worked in a 1.6b. Do they put it on if you ask, no. Are they trying to screw you, no, I think they have some that are flashed with 3.01 and 3.03, they just don't know which are which. Pretty soon all the shipments of chips they get will be flashed with the latest flashbios I guess. Anyway it all worked out for me.

Good to hear because I just bought a new X-Box from the local Gamestop. It's the Top Spin and NCAA Football bundle.

Area: Buffalo, NY
Manufacture Date: 2004-10-24
RAM: Samsung
DVD-ROM: Philips
Fan: 12V
Video Chip: Xcalibur

My guess is it's 1.6 non b. It definitely sounds like they're mix and matching parts now. Should be fun modding this one when the Xecuter 2.6 comes in from system-mods.

I got one at Circuit City (TN) while passing through and it is Samsung ram and DVD 1.6. Works well except for an odd FTP problem of dropping the connection and having to reboot the xbox. 2.6b-lite btw.

Samething happend too me!

My Xbox is dated 2004-10-14.

I also have Samsung ram, Samsung 605 DVD drive, and 12v Fan!

So i guess i have a 1.6 and not 1.6b correct?

the one I got is a 1.6 with phillips drive mfr 10.9.04

looks like what someone else said above - whatever parts they have aval at the time.

The first one I bought was 10/10/04 did that one up for brother in law.. It was a 1.6

Second one I bought was 10/13/04 it had the stupid HYNIX ram so it was a 1.6b. So I took it back to the big wall.. Went to another store and found one that was 09/28/04 Cracked it and voila samsung ram.

By the way.. Each one had different DVD drives and HDD's in them as well..

Philips DVD / WD HDD / in the last one I bought.

First one was Samsung DVD / Seagate HDD..

They are just using what they have when they have it.. All were made in china.

i got one with a mfg date of 9-18-04 with samsung drive and memory, but the drive sucks, it didnt wanna read cd-r. but it read dvd-r perfect.

the new revision of sammys arent near as good as the old ones. (you can tell if its new by the revision number on the label or by the location of the power connector).

Looking for some help Jtag/Flash

Hey

I was looking to mod my xbox but have some questions first....

Whats the difference Between Flashing and A JTAG? Or are they the same?

What are the advnatages and disadvantages of both?

Also Can you get banned if you Flash or JTAG?
i have searched google but i am unsure of the right answer as i know microsoft only started banning jtags a while ago.

well to be honest you could find all your answers on google.

the difference between a jtag hack and a flash is.....a flash is wrewriting your firmware stored on your xbox 360 dvd drive and a jtag hack is to allow you to read/write unasigned code to your xbox 360.

Advantages of a flashed drive are you can play backups and thats it really.

Advantages of a jtag hack well the list is endless just google it

Well with the flashing as long as you keep your FW on your drive up to date and YOU DONT PLAY RELEASES EARLY and make sure you follow all the security measures in place for backup and burning then you will last as long as possible with backups.

J-TAG you don't play on XBL with it otherwise you will defo be banned.

Just one other question..
I would like to edit savegames as i have experince in hex editting and i know many tutorials point you buying a transfer kit.
Is there any other way to do this? Can you save games to the Usb?
