OH sh*t..... After hours and hours of work I finally got my x3 1.6b flashed and showing the team xecuter rocks my socks logo. Here is the oh sh*t part. I am fixing the date inside the dash, I lean over to get the right day of my computer when all hell breaks loose. My X-box falls about 1 foot from the side of my bed to the ground. Thepower cord came out of the back. Now when I turn it on I get an error code 07. Even when I disable the chip I get an 07. I know that is a HDD problem. I took my xbox aprat, checked all the connections, evrything seems fine. I pluged the broke HDD in my other xbox and it too had a 07 error........ After all this work I only tasted glory for like 5 min. Can someone please tell me what happened??? Why wont my bios/xbox even recognize my HDD....... Thank you ahead of time for anyone who can lead me in the right direction... Sorry for writting a novel, thanks again for the help.

HDDs cannot withstand shocks like that. the data platters on the inside are most likely misaligned/jammed causing them to be unreadable. you can ungrade your HDD still if you can get all the data from an XB C: drive, but it will never be able to go onto XB live because you will never be able to boot the original MS dash.

Was it your stock hdd? If so then you've got a great excuse to upgrade it to a bigger one :D

I've not check exactly what error 7 means (error codes are in the faq's on XS) but if the hdd was reading/writing when it hit the floor then it's quite likely that it's dead.

******************************************
ONLY AS A LAST RESORT - wait to see if anyone has a better suggestion because if your drive isn't already dead this will kill it!

I've heard about hdd's that have failed and been resurrected by being given a a whack on the side before being booted. This should give you enough time to ftp the contents of each drive to your pc!
*******************************************

Like I said though this would be a last resort and might not even work for this problem!

Good Luck!

Why would you not be able to boot to the origional dash?

There are IT specialists that can do it for you but it costs!
I know how you feel....I twatted the keyboard on my laptop in a temper and trashed the drive! Put it down to experience mate!

unless he can recover the C: drive info from the original HDD or the 160G he has in there, he wont be able to boot original MS dash. its because the serial number file on the C: drive will not match the one the MOBO is mated to (i guess). at least that has been the case in 2 XBs ive modded where the original HDDs were bad, but i had the C: drive info from one of the 1st XBs i ever did and loaded that onto the new HDD instead.
if there is something i overlooked please correct me.

sounds like your xbox hard drive is timing out... which brand is your hard drive.. i have noticed that maxtors are complete sh*t!... i have had 2 160 maxtors go bad really fast... and also for your other troubles with booting your 8 gig... did you unlock it?... if so... lock it and it should boot fine... it doesn't sound like your modchip is having problems... just the hard drive

Your harddrive from your other xbox should work fine as long as you unlocked it when it was still in the other xbox. If you didn't unlock it before you took it out...put it back in, unlock it, then put it in the one with the damaged hd.

Rule #1 always unlock the harddrive before taking it out of a box. Other wise it's just a door stop.

you probably didn't have all the files,

Just get the slayers install disk and install the m$dash and make sure the drive is locked. should work sweet ! you may get banned from live though for not having the stock hdd in there !

the other xbox hard drive gives error 6 because it is locked to the other xbox's eeprom. you need to unlock the drive, THEN put it in your broken box, it should boot up with no errors then. Most likely what has happened is you killed the drive, do not attempt to whack the drive on the side, that won't do anything for you except screw it up. If you want to try to save it by brute force take the 160gb, hold it about 5-6 inches off the table upside-down, and drop it. This is the most efficient method for saving a drive it the head has gotten stuck on the edge of the platter, you have to be more careful next time. Anyways, good luck with it and if all else fails just return it, most places won't even check it, my buddy got a 200gb from compusa that was defective, he just took it back and they exchanged it, no questions asked, they didn't even open the box to make sure he returned the right drive.

What happens if I just put I new HD in. I dont have the MS Dash info. All the things I have read have said you need your MS dash. Its locked on my broken HD. WHat will happen if I put a random new HD in there, will it even read it?

Hey,
The bottom line is your hard drive is hosed and you need to replace it. You will not be able to retrieve the information off the broken hard drive without paying big bucks so I would just forget about that.

As long as the chip still boots you can put another hard drive in. You will have to lock it to get into the MS dash. Which will not be a problem as long as the chip works.
You will have to start over installing games, apps, etc... Sorry but there is no practical way around that.

You only get error codes 6 and 7 when you try to get into the M$ dash with a hard drive locked to another motherboard. You can switch hard drives all day long. Locked or unlocked and never get an error code until you try to get into the M$ dash.

To get into the M$ dash with a hard drive from another xbox the hard drive has to be unlocked before you remove it then locked to the new xbox. You can unlock it and lock it into as many xbox's as you want without hurting the hard drive.
