once i download the game, where do i put it on the hard drive? under what folder, and then once its there, i can just open it using a file browsing system on the xbox? thanks

You can put it wherever you like. As long as your dash will be able to find it, or you make a path to it.
Put it in the F partition in a folder called Games or HDDLoader if you have pxhddloader. If you want to play it from evo x, check/edit your evox.ini file to make sure it will read.
If you can't be bothered to change your evox.ini, just launch a file explorer like boxplorer, open the game folder and press a on default.xbe
