This box will now not boot via the power button but only the eject button. I'm wondering what I had fried of if I can hot-wire it to boot/shut down. Thanks!

I would imagine the X3 chip would be fried - check it for any burn marks etc.

Box should work with it disconnected tho.

the X3 is completely fried. The box works all except for the Power button. I figure since this is the Xecuter forum someone would know exactly what connecting the alt 5v to 12v would do. Also hooking it to 5v didnt fix the box >.<. Thanks!

I’ll give you the answer that you will find anywhere, not just the Xecuter forum.

You overloaded the circuit! Electronics designed to be fed 5 volts will go pop, frizzle, fry when you introduce it to 12 volts of juice.

obviously... what is fried though? I figured some guys here would know best exactly what fried because they made the chip.
Im not sure what good telling you will do ?

If you couldnt follow simple diagram then my guess is you wouldnt have much joy in doing a surface mount repair either

however i couldnt possibly tell you whats gone wrong. If you called a garage and told them that your car wont start, whats wrong? - they wouldn't have a clue would they

Send it to llamma.com for repair - your best bet really

I can solder surface mount just fine its just I was installing it from memory and my memory served me wrong i guess. I think this is a much more specific issue than 'my car wont start' as it is obvious exactly what happened but not exactly how to fix it. If someone can tell me what compnent(s) to replace that'd be greatly appreciated.

WHY WHY WHY
Team Xecuter has such perfect tutorials,Why would you try to go by memory?? I installed mine with my PC running and my browser pointed to the tutorial, and my install went perfect ( keep in mind I'm a pure noob)

Odda are you killed the chip, by giving it 12V when it is designed to manage only 5V, in lamens terms you tried to put A tractor trailer motor into A mini cooper, imagine what would happen

I KNOW that 12v kills a 5v device. If you read the thread you'd see i've said that many times. The problem is that I need to hotwire a on/off switch. I know this is very simple I just dont know how. Someone here most likely does though and I'm waiting for them to respond to this thread.

Look around xbox-scene.com for a diagram of the PCB cable. It should show you what wires do what. Also, I believe the purple and brown wires coming from the PSU are the ones that control the relay that turns the xbox on and off.
