hotswapping help

I recently flashed my hitachi 78fk drive and bought a pioneer 111d drive. I'm trying to use the hotswap method but so far it hasn't worked. When I try to use Wxripper and find the magic number, it says error: no media loaded, even though the 360 disc is in there. Is it absolutely necessary to have an 8+ gb disc, because the biggest one I've used has been 7.8?

Ok, well I realized a friend had gladiator on DVD so I tried using that and I'm still having difficulties. Using WXripper, I put in gladiator, find the magic number, stop spinning, use the emergency eject to replace to disc with an original GoW. Then I hit play and then dump. When it gets to the second line, it says Error @ 0: Incorrect function. So I saved the layout, opened it up in notepad, and changed the first and third lines' starting letters to D. This all works fine and dandy till the dumping process hits the 4th line, where it does nothing and the error repeats. I feel if I don't get this thing working then I've let the computer win. And I'll be goddamned if I'm going to let that happen.

Follow the viro tutorial very closely. And also, did you compy the magic number correctly?
