How can I find out which Chip I have....

...without taking the Xbox apart.

If I upgrade the Hard Disk in my PC I will have a 200Gb drive going spare so I fancy sticking it in the box. So I am trawling Tutorials and trying to get all the software I need in advance.

So I have a couple of questions.

Is flashing the BIOS required? Or is it a case of if it aint broke don't fix it? Evox says I have BIOS +3935 at the moment. Without knowing what chip is installed I have no idea what BIOS to download. The boot screen says Xecuter2. The modchip glows blue and has a very fine wire that sits in a solder hole on the PCB if that helps? That's all I can remember from the last time I had it in bits. (I didn't fit the modchip).

So far I have

EvolutionX Build 3935
UnleashX.0.39.0222A - in case I fancy trying a different Dash.
X2.5032
XBMC 12.04.06 T3CH
Auto Installer Deluxe v3.0

Mainly wondering how the partitioning of the drive is performed - and how the software is installed. I have got tons of guides bookmarked - but I am still not totally confident of NOT screwing something up - especially flashing that modchip.

Any help or pointers in the right direction are appreciated. Especially if you can tell me which modchip is installed.

Oh, and I think I have a v1.5 box - I was messing in XBMC the other day and it had a bunch of info in one of the menus that for the life of me I can no longer find.

Thanks for any help.

Arrggghhhh. My mistake. I assumed because it said Xecuter2 on boot that it had some kind of Xecuter modchip installed. It is a Spiderchip - no idea which version - I assume it is flashed with an Xecuter BIOS - I didn't realise chips could take different BIOS's - I thought it would work like BIOS's on PC Motherboards.

Ooops!

As this is a solderless modchip - if I was to replace it with a Xecuter3ce and Xapt3r - dare I assume that is just sitting/resting in the holes? In other words I wont have to remove the Motherboard and de-solder it?

Sorry mods - this is slipping into X3 territory - I would move the post if I could.

I believe the spider chips are solderless chips, so you should be able to just pull it out and put a new chip in. But, if it isn't broken, why fix it?

I have been asked to mod someones box - as I will probably use an Xecuter3ce and Xapt3r (I don't have a soldering iron) to do it - I figured I would sell them the Spider cheap and stick the X3 in mine. Also upgraded the Hard Disk in my PC so I will give them the 160Gb from my box and stick the 200Gb in mine. It's a bit complicated (well not really).

At the end of the day I am bored and fancied fiddling/spending some cash. Always build/software my own PC's - it's more satisfying when it is something you did yourself.

(I didn't mod my box originally)
