Most of the time this is due to the flash protect switch being enabled. Make sure flash protect is off. In an X3CE this means the led must be red NOT green.
Which is it? before you said unknown flash, now you said unkown file. If you get an unknown file error it could be to do with the file your flashing. Did you unrar it? What is the full filename?
