Hi. Got a slim with glitch already installed. Firstly it's got a glitchchip in it and the boot times are sh&t compared to my other two where I installed coolrunners, so big up TX Coolrunners the only chip I will now install.

I want to use this as a media player but it hasn't had the media update installed. Already glitched so cant go on live to get the update and I am aware of how to do it for my jtag and the other slims with HDD but does anyone know if I can apply the update to a 4gb slim without adding an internal HDD. Can't afford to install a HDD this side of xmas and when I scan the xbox through ftp I can only see Flash and my external usb drives on there.

Is there a way to install the update to the onboard 4gb. If there is how do I do it and where is the onboard 4
gb?

The problem you have is the Optional Media Update (which delivers divx playback) cannot be copied from within the main dashboard. I don't know whether you can change the container to allow it- it's not something I've tried.

To get around it for now, grab a 1gb USB stick and format it in the main dashboard to be used as a Memory unit. Then insert into one of your other JTAG consoles and via FTP or FSD File manager, copy the Content\0000000000000000\<titleid> folder for the update onto the USB0Mu folder you should have.

Leave the USB stick in your slim for the time being until we have a tool to copy to it.

I did read up on XBH that it's possible to copy over using an FTPDLL plugin but not tried it myself. This might be another option.

Thank you for the quick reply Martin!

I found and extracted my optional media update file from my old hard drive, put it in my new hard drive and it still won't play AVIs, MP4s, etc. I'm using the same console, just upgraded to a larger hard drive. Thought I could extract the OMU file from the old drive and put it in the new one, but I guess it isn't as easy as it sounds....

Didn't work, tried everything and no luck.
I'm wondering if you installed these Optional media update files in XBXLive virgine consoles. Consoles which never in the past downloaded the OMU file.

The interesting thing is that my old OMU files still work on the same two consoles which I upgraded their HDDs, provided that I run them on the old/original hard drive.
But as oon as I extract these working OMU files. They won't work in the new upgraded hard drives (RGH'd two consoles), even when though they're running in the same consoles....

Yeah, if you've not unlocked the content using XM360 then you will need content patch enabled in dashlaunch :)

They're in the correct place, I'm certain of that. I don't have Dashlaunch on any of the two consoles. But I also tried unlocking the OMU files using XM360, and the Yaris method and still no luck. I'll try your Dashlaunch method next, hopefully it works because I'm running out of options :(

Well I give up :/
I tried everything....
Contpatch set to True in Dashlaunch, XM360, Yaris, and it still won't work.

The only way to get it to work is by hooking up the original hdd, the one which the OMU file was downloaded to in the first place. It's as if for those who have downloaded the file straight from XBL, the file marries to what ever hdd, usb flash drive the file is downloaded to. This would explain why your OMU file works on your Xbox's lambs neck, consoles that have never set foot on XBL or at least have never downloaded the OMU file.

My only alternative is to go back online with either my updgraded HDD or a USB flash drive, create a new Silver account, and download the OMU file again. Of coarse, one of my upgraded HDDs is of 640 GB so I can't go online with that one. But I suppose I can go online with the 320 GB upgraded one.

Thank you Lambs Neck and Martin!

Hi garageinc, it's the same thing. But I appreciate the help.
Now I'm really screwed, I was planning on going on XBL just to download the OMU file on to a flash drive or something. But it's too late now, I'm hearing that people with Phat Xbox's are having trouble connecting to Live after downloading the latest Dashboard update....
