How do I install Media update on Slim 4Gb RGH

Thank you Martin, but it's the same old story.
Here's what's happenning, when I drop an untouched OMU file, my video icons all have a picture of film. And that indicates that the video file is recognised and playable. But I get an error message when trying to play any video file that's not in WMV form. Now when I unlock the OMU file, using XM360, Yaris Swap, my original OMU pulled from the original Xbox HDD, or when I use the OMU file you gave me; all the icons of the MP4 vids change to that "No" sign of a circle with a line going through it. WMV's play fine as expected and AVI's try to play, but the screen just goes black. I can rewind and fastforward, but there's no sound and the picture is black.
Very weird, both my Falcon Phat and Trinity Slim do this.
I got a new Slim and updated to the new NXE dash. I noticed that this latest dash uses a smaller OMU file. It's about 430'something bits. Gonna try extracting this tomorrow and throwing it in one of my RGH boxes to tomorrow to see what happens. I never downloaded the OMU file, I think it came as part of the new dash.
Crossing my fingers hoping this works.

Well the above works on all consoles I have it on. Either your AVI is encoded badly or is the wrong format.
Delete this folder from \Content\0000000000000000\ (which will get rid of the update and any bookmarks), then re-copy from what you downloaded above.
If you have more than one Memory Unit on your console (HDD and IntMu count as MU's too), make sure you've removed it from ALL connected devices before copying over.
I will add - if you have Yaris Swap, DELETE IT FROM YOUR PC.
It is not to be used with locked containers as it deletes too much information. More to the point, the download I posted there is already unlocked and ready to use.
Download XM360 and run on your JTAG console - it will scan your HDD and unlock the content for you.

This leads me to speculate that some how for those who downloaded their optional media update from XBL like I did, the the OMU file for lack of a better term, marries what ever memory unit they were downloaded to. This sort of explains why lambs_neck didn't have any issues with this OMU file on his consoles which none of them ever went online.

I dont know if you guys are still looking for the answer to this - this drove me mad as well 
This occurs when the System update has not been performed on the xbox (when the avatars are still greyed out). Just follw points 7 onwards in this post by neophyte5001 and it will resolve the problem for you

normally you just play the media file and the update will be downloaded but since it's RGH can't connect to live to get it
no what i mean that on top of adding the optional media update you also need to perform the system update that restores the avatars. then the Media update will work.
