How do I upgrade FlashBIOS to 3.0.3?

Hi there,
First of all, thanks to all of you for your helpfulness and your expertise; I've learned a lot on this forum.

Second, here is what I've got:

* Supposedly a v1.6 or v1.6B Xbox. The manufacture date is Jan 2005, but it's got a Focus chip on the motherboard. I get errors when I try to flash anything but the "plus" X3 BIOS, so I'm assuming that I'm correct that it's a 1.6+ Xbox.

* An X3 modchip with a pro switch.

* My installer (Modchipman) put Cromwell FlashBIOS 3.0.1 on ALL of the banks--I"ve tested 'em all! Although I am able to get through the flashing process with BIOS 3108 and earlier versions, I alway reboot into a black screen (but with audio). When I boot with the X3 disabled, I get the M$ dash per usual.

Modchipman did a header pin install of the chip, and I've cracked open the Xbox and made sure that the chip and the cables are all seated correctly. I'm hoping those two LPC points discussed in the sticky post are soldered okay, cuz I really don't want to hassle with removing the mobo. However, if you think that that might be my problem, I'd be happy to try it.

Which brings me to my point: do you think my black screen could be caused by the fact that I'm running FlashBIOS 3.0.1? If so, then how in the world can I upgrade to 3.0.3 with no video? I've heard of ConfigMagic and these other EEPROM tools, but they require video, which I do not have.

Any insight would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

You have a 1.4 Xbox - this is not uncommon for 2005 Xboxes. Don't use the v16plus BIOS.

If you're getting sound but no video, you may need to force the X3 to boot either in PAL or NTSC. There are instructions for this in the file you originally downloaded. You most certainly don't need to update flashbios.

Martin, thank you so much--you are absolutely correct. When I flashed using the non-"plus" version of the X3 3108 BIOS, I got the "Rox my Box" logo at startup and booted into Config Live. Sure enough, the setup portion of Config Live confirmed that my 'Box is a 1.4.

Would have been nice for Modchipman to let me know that instead of advertising it as a 1.6, but it's all good now.

Thanks again,
Tim
