I have a Mad Dog DVD +/- R, DVD+R DL Burner. Can I burn backups with this drive.

How do I know if it has bitsetting option, or auto-bitsetting.

If I need a new DVD drive, which would be the best to burn Xbox 360 backups. People have said Pioneer 112D, but I can't find this drive anywhere.

thanks

I don't think it needs to be exactly the 112D model. I think it is enough to be a Pioneer. I recommend Pioneer. I am using a 215DBK and it works great, I haven't had a single problem with it. All of my X360 backup games are working properly. Besides that you need to use quality media, like Verbatim DVD+DL that are made in Singapore.
And how to find out does a DVD Burner has a bitsetting option, well i'm sorry but I am unable to help you with that.
Well that's my opinion about the Pioneer...

Goolge then model number of your drive.

you can find it by going to My computer and right clicking, select properties on vista you have to click system properties in te next window (top left)
then just go into CD/DVD and thats your model number.

As above post says, you have a decent burner so it should be on auto.

I have a sony and it does it automatically (same with most new ones)
