GENERAL how do you know when you are banned on xbl?

i think im banned on xbl but i dont know. when i try to sign in to the profile i was using 4 xbl my xbox freezes. does that mean that profile is banned? i never used xbl till today and i played one round of black ops and that was it now it freezes

youll know when you are banned as it come up with a message along the lines of " this xbox is banned form xbox live due to a breach of xbox terms and conditions"

Delete profile and Recover Gamertag, easy.
Or HDD issue, format.
