How fragile is Xbox after install?

Is it safe to drive your mod xbox on a bumpy dirt road. Im talking some pretty big bumps too. Drove it from a friends house to mine on this road, and the chip couldnt enable, i was getting FRAG. Fixed that, but just wondering if it was a result of the bumps or a not-so-good-install or both?

I'm assuming you have the box mounted in your car somewhere? Make sure it's cushioned somewhat... put it on some foam or something. I had a PS2 that would screw up discs on bumpy roads, and all I had to do was build it a little shock absorber.

the main problem is the D0 and make sure that if it is a solder less adapter that it is in good and I would consider soldering it if it is not already

Yep, my xbox and I are about to go on a trip halfway across the country too :) Just keep it in a somewhat safe spot, and I would suggest maybe taking a look at the mod when you get back to make sure that the chip is still firmly placed. I'd say your main concern is if you have an X3 (not CE) and you aren't using, and didn't insulate your alt 5v pin. There is a good chance that the chip could slip and that could touch the board, then when you turn it back on, poof. Of course, you SHOULD have that insulated if your not using it in the first place ;)

I live out in the boonies also and I put my mod chip in at a friends house in the city. I had to drive 20+ minutes back on my crappy road and had no problems so I would assume it was something wasnt soldered tight nuff. My box has been bounced around pretty good and no probs yet =)

On my 1.6, a few dabs of hot glue are holding both the chip to the pinheader and the 5v lead wire to it's pin. Hot glue is nice, because you can pull it off without damaging anything, but it doesn't come off by istelf.

hmm. good solder shouldnt be able to get shaken loose, and hot glue wouldnt help that. my pinheaders take all sorts of abuse without messing up the connections. the hot glue dab on the chip and pinheader help keep the x3 from "tipping". an alternate method is to go to a crafts or hardware store and buy little rubber feet (think of what's on the bottom of the xbox). i put one over the backup ram chip on my x3 so that it cant tip when i push it down onto the pinheader.

and i dont think the xbox will get hot enough to melt hot glue, but putting it on anything but the plastic part of the pinheader and x3 connector doesnt sound like a good idea.

just touch up your solder points if you're worried about the bottom of the board.

If it frags from loose solder, then the problem is a crappy solder job. Any halfway decent soldering job will hold the EXTREMELY minimal weight of the X3 without any problems at all. If you have soldered properly the ONLY thing to worry about is the X3 chip coming loose from the pin header, and not the pin header's solder coming lose, because that solder should hold even if you drop the box from 5 feet in the air if you did it right.

Alright, I think I did plenty of illustation now that if you properly solder it, it ain't going anywhere haha :)

By the way... half way there haha. Free wireless internet at Days Inn is great :). My xbox is right next to me here in my bag, still safe and sound :). My Targus laptop bookbag has great padding for an Xbox :)

try taping the black pin header insert of your chip to the pin header (on the black plastic) with electrical tape. it'll keep it from bouncing off the header. this also works great for wire installs also.

BTW. It's the lpcs which cause the frag. if the D0 was loose, the chip wouldn't even start to boot. You'd get M$ bios.
