My power/eject adapter doesn't seem to be working. I plug in the xbox v1.0 with wire install and the xbox boots up fine.

If I hold the power button - nothing happens. If I press the eject button - nothing happens. If I press both the power and eject button at the same times, smoke comes out of the xbox.

I've read on the forums that you need to remove the sticky pad from the power/eject adapter and "clean" it somehow. How do you recognize a "solder bridge" and how do you "clean" it?

First, determine if it IS indeed the power/eject adapter. Try to boot up the unit WITHOUT the adapter board in place. If the system boots up with the modchip enabled, then your adapter board is defective. At that point, you have 2 choices. You can remove the sticky pad and see if there's anything obvious wrong. For example, if 2 of the solder points are bridged, you can clean it up with a desoldering braid. It's fairly simple. Drop the braid between the 2 bridged solder joints. Heat it for a few seconds with the heated iron. Remove and repeat if necessary. Afterwards, inspect the 2 solder points and touch them up with more solder if necessary. Your other option is to just get the board replaced. Your X3 will work normally without this part. So, your box will still be usable while you wait for this part to be replaced.
