To be legit you just boot with your X3 chip disabled. and access live like normal. If you mean that you want to be able to run a modded version of halo2 on live... i'm not sure. i think the website is called www.halomods.com I could be wrong. I just tried that addres and got access denied..... oh well.

Just search for "halo" and "modding" in google

That link is live here in the states. That site and Halomaps will tell you pretty much anything you want to know and give you links to things you didn't. I have been messing around Changing ppf's and stuff for the kids and the general sound on this scene is getting banned after moddifying things happens pretty regularily. You need an original disc to go on live anyway so if you have an extra unmodded xbox I would use it. Save the modded maps for linking with your friends.

I also have a question about this:

When I formatted my upgraded xbox hdd (120 GIG) using the slayer 2.6 auto installer disc, It gave an option for recreating the C: drive just as a retail drive looks, I think it was something like "ghost" install, and everything else goes to F: drive. Can I go on xbox live with this using a retail game and disabling the X3 chip?

make sure you up grade your hard drive before going on to xbox live or else microsft remembers your original hd number and will ban you if it changes

What if you use account recovery, I mean what if your origional xbox broke, you had live on it, and you use account recovery on the new xbox? Would they still ban you?

Not if it's a fresh xbox. If you mix and match and they recognise your eeprom or your hdd they'll catch you, but if you get a completely new xbox you will be o.k.

What do you mean by "upgrade your hard drive"? Is there a way to go around this HD and EEPROM matching? How would one ga about doing this? If it can't be said here please PM me.

Wait, I get it. You mean change the HD before ever getting on XBL so XBL doesn't make a record of the EEPROM and HD numbers. There has to be some sort of way to emulate the old EEPROM and HD combo. I will investigate...

Hey,
It is called the marriage theory :)
They pair the epprom with the hd key AFTER you log on to xbox live, so If you have NOT been on live before you will be fine but be sure to LOCK the hard drive. Also to play on xbox LIVE you will need to run your dashboard off of a bootdisc that means putting the CD into your dvd drive if you wish to run any apps :(. Another thing to remember if you have the ethernet cable unplugged and atempt to log on to xbox live WITH THE CHIP ENABLED, the eeprom will remember the alteration of a different bios and update it to M$ the second you attempt to log on, even thought the chip is DISABLED. Hope that helps :)

I am not sure i agree with that 100%

Plenty of people use xblive, with upgraded hdd's, with a dashboard loaded on the hdd. Also the X3 doesn't allow you to connect to live so i don't see how that can causea problem...

I'd like to know more about this ^^. I just purchased a new EEPROM and my X3 just came in. I'll be installing the X3 soon and upgrading my hd to a 250gigger. I HAVE played on xbox live before which makes everything more complicated.

I want to be able to run the mod chip and play custom games though on halo 2 (saw someone do it the other day, was very kick-ass).

The word i've heard is that if you upgrade your drive after joining xbox live you will get banned. If you upgrade your hdd and your eeprom you won't get banned. This is all heresy for me personally as i haven't (and hopefully never will) use xbox live. But... hopefully the information can be useful to you.

So what if I switch out the new HD for the original HD that was used when I first got on xbox live? As long as I use that and disable the chip, nothing will show that it changed to M$ right?

Correct, so long as that is the only HD you've ever tried to use on Live with this box. If you tried to get on with your upgraded drive, both that drive and your EEPROM will now be banned.
