From what I can gather it is possible to run without the switch although I haven't seen anyone do so. You *will* need to have something in place to make contact between some of the pins on the plug. I followed the traces on my X2 2.3 switch to learn how it worked and get LED wiring ideas. Unless something has changed drasticly you simply need to figure you which pins need to be joined. This will probably be easier if you still have the cable that runs from the X2 chip to the switches. Once you've identified what pins need to be joined just cut the cable in the middle and solder together the appropriate wires. All the other wires should be protected so that they don't short against the board or each other.
Don't try this unless you're confident you understand the wiring and the pinout of the switch board!
