I studied the Textbook Tutorial for quite some time now and while I was reading the Hitachi Tut I became aware, that the Hitachi 0079FK is the only Drive that's unflashable unless you're able to desolder the firmware chip an program it externally. While the soldering part wouldn't be that much of a problem for me, the programing part kept me wondering. How do you program a firmware chip externally???

You need to have an external programmer such as a Willem and an adapter to allow you to plug the chip into it. It's alot easier and cheaper to just buy a Maximus Passkey chip, you can solder that onto the 0079 drive and then flash it just like an 0078.

Damn, that's not expensive, that's insane. I would have bought one for 100 Bugs but that just way to expensive for me.
