I've searched and was wondering how can you lock a stock hard drive for xbox live if you do not have a dashboard installed other than the original microsoft. I was just wondering because I have never been on live since I got the chip, but I have been on live before, and just put in my 200gb hard drive. From what I've read all I would need to do is install the stock hard drive back in the xbox and then I would be good to go since I have never been banned. I thought you needed to have your hard drive locked to get onto live but wasnt sure how to do it with the stock hdd. If anyone can help, then I would appreciate it. Thanks

Sorry for the long post

The stock HDD should already be locked, unless you unlocked it. In that case, you just need to go into the X3 config live, go to HDD settings, and then lock the drive. If your xbox works when you boot up with the modchip disabled, then that means that your drive is locked.
edit: a good way to make sure that you don't accidently log in with your 200gb drive is to unlock it, but keep your stock HDD locked. That way it won't let you log in if you forget to swap the drives.

alrighty then I'll bite.....

In X3CL (hold down white button on boot up if it's disabled) there's an option to enable hdd locking and away you go.

EDIT:
Bet me to it Shibz :)

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I've done all of the above mentioned and and when I go to connect to live in a game it says that it cannot sign on to xbox live (chip off). I then go to the troubleshooter and it says that the network gateway cannot be reached and to verify that the ip address match. Not exactly sure what to do. Thanks

ya, how is your router/xbox set up? Lets say that your router's ip is 192.168.0.1, you need to set your xbox's ip for 192.168.0.x where x is a number between 2 and 255 that isn't already in use by another computer or xbox. Then set the gateway for 192.168.0.1 (the same as your router, and the subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0 (unless you are connecting to a huge network that uses different subnet masks).

Put in the correct settings for your network.

I figured it out, I just set the settings to auto detect the ip address instead of manual and it worked. Now I'm just waiting to see if I get banned for any reason.
