Hello,

I have been following the SMC alt point tutorial and everything has been successful up till now. I am at the point where I installed xbr and need to create a freeboot image to flash to the console. Easy XBR to freeboot isn't working for me so I am using the jtag tool option. I am unsure though which bin I use to create the freeboot image through jtag tool. Do I use the original nand? The XBR dump?

Would have been a good idea to mention which board you are trying to JTAG. Anyhow, here's how to do it:

1. copy the xell .bin file relative to your motherboard from here 'C:\Program Files\Jtag Tool\Xell Bins' and place it a working folder (example updatemysmc).

2. extract the smc file as mentioned in the alt tutorial using extract tool.

3. update the smc points again as mentioned in the tutroial

4. extract the smc file again from the modified xell file and place in 'C:\Program Files\Jtag Tool\SMC' again making sure you rename the smc file to the relative motherboard you have (i.e xenon.bin/zephyr.bin/falcon.bin or jasper.bin) at the same time copy the xell modified file back to the 'C:\Program Files\Jtag Tool\Xell Bins' folder.

4. Install xell using JTAG Tool and get your CPU key

5. use the obtained key to compile Freeboot in JTAG tool and then write bin.

That's the simplest way to do it.

The board type that I am using is a Zephyr with a CB 4580 so I have to use falcon files with it.

Why use falcon files when there are zephyr ones. Stick to the zephyr.bin files in both the xbins & smc folders. You'll notice that the xell file will change from 1.4mb to 16mb, that is normal. Just write the whole 16mb and you should get the xell blue screen when you use the eject button.

Remember to extract the smc file from the new 16mb xell image which should be 12kb in size and place that in the smc folder in JTAG tool before you create freeboot.
