GENERAL How to put games files from disc on a non-xbox formatted hard drive?

I finally broke down and modded my xbox 360. I have been trying to find a good way to copy my games onto a 2 TB external hard drive. When I go into xex or F3 it will only let me extract the game to the xbox hard drive or xbox formatted usb drive. When I try to save it onto the 2 TB drive it only gets so far and then stops before the game is completely extracted.

When it comes to putting games on an external hard drive everything I've read talks about GOD files that are converted from .iso files. Is there a good way/program to get an .iso or GOD file directly from the disc? I'd rather copy my own discs instead of downloading the files off the internet. Or maybe there's a way to format the external hard drive so I can have the entire 2 TB available to the xbox?

Thanks

No, I've tried NTFS and exFat32. I also formatted a usb thumb drive with my xbox and was able to copy and play a game off of it no problem. I then used xex to copy and paste the game file onto my external hard drive, but it wouldn't transfer it like that either.

Just to make sure it wasn't a problem with my hard drive I did download an iso file off the internet of a game I already own. I used the ISO2GOD program to convert it, and it worked fine on the external hard drive.

I guess what I need to know is what is the easiest way to get the iso file directly from the disc? Once I can do that I think I can make it work.

FATx has a 4gb limit like FAT32 - therefore there will be no files on a disc which exceed the 4gb limit.

For external use, the HDD needs to be FAT32. You then use the copy disc function of FSD.

The console is trying to allocate up to 32gb of space on your HDD as a Memory Unit for 'installed content' (HD Packs etc) as some games won't work without it. As it stands, Battlefield 4 MUST have an internal HDD anyway, so this is kind of a moot point.

Take your new HDD and repartition on your PC using something like easeus partition manager. You want it to be a single partition, FAT32 HDD.

I may check again to make sure the external drive is formatted to exFat32. Currently FSD picks up the drive and the GOD file fine, but even it won't let me copy the game directly from the disc to the external hard drive.

Sorry, you have been so quick that while I was typing you had already responded. I do the things that you mentioned and see if that works.

Yes, battlefield 4 was the game I own, but downloaded to get the iso. Disc 1 has to be extracted and part of it saved to the internal hard drive, but disc 2 can be left has a GOD conversion in the external hard drive.

So you have an internal HDD too? Please refrain from asking about what you downloaded as we cannot help.

Does FSD report around 2000gb on your external?

It's working as I described on my Xbox. I have approx 2-3 GB from the first disc saved on the internal drive and the 2nd disc GOD extract on the external drive and the game work fine. I have a small internal drive and don't really want to invest in a larger internal drive.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I forgot how I originally formatted the hard drive, and it's actually 3 TB not 2 TB. I used a program called "paragon partition manager" which will let you format any size drive to fat32 (not exFat32). The drive is read and I'm able to navigate in FSD. At the top it says the drive is 2.794.1 GB.

I tried some of your suggestions above, but nothing worked. I think the only way to save and play the game on the external drive as I've formatted it is to convert the disc to an iso file then convert the iso file to GOD using ISO2GOD. I just don't know how to get the iso file from the disc???

Thanks for your replies.

I took a photo of my TV showing the available 2794.4 GB drive, but photo uploader on the forum doesn't seem to be working for me.
