How to solve my xbox 360 slim 4g sudden shutdown ?

So since I can't find a definite solution in the net I will ask for the help of TX community. Yesterday while I was tranfering a game to my console via ftp on my lan the xbox suddenly turn it's fan to full speed, flashed the red dot two times and then shutdown. After I tried to reboot immidiately I got a solid red dot on my xbox and nothing else. I shut it down in frustration and left it with everything disconnected as the official MS solution was saying till today. Now while it boots normally to FSD3 after an hour I got the same problem. I checked my temps from FSD3 and they where normal (48 - 52 max) but if I put my hand in front of the ventilation the air is really hot, like way to much from the normal. Also I connect my slim to a VGA TFT 16" monitor with a 3rd party connector from my old XBOX 360 Arcade, but in that xbox it never did that and I have it since my old xbox (maybe the monitor has the problem), I also checked it with the AV cable that came with it and run a game and it didn't turn off (after I left it all night shutdown). After I tried again to transfer content from the PC to the XBOX it did the same, only this time instead of immidiate solid red (after it shut itself down), it glitches, boots and after 2-10 seconds it shuts down to solid red dot. If I shut it (while in red) and reboot it, it does the same. I don't know what is the problem, I had it glitched and working a week now, also I transfered 160GB through the ftp (I fall asleep in between, so I can't verify if it did it back then, because when I was waking up the xbox was turned off and I had air condition on back then) so I don't know that is the problem. Final note, because I don't have a case for the internal HDD, I just plug it in naked. Can this also be a problem ? When I was removed the Xclamp to solder the cables underneath, maybe the thermal paste isn't properly spreaded anymore ? Also in dashlaunch I changed the temp profile from 87-86-78 to 57-56-45, can this be also a cause ?

Really ? XD Sorry, being a PC gamer/technician, when I saw the temps in dashlauch system info I thaught they where dangerously high for the chip assembly if they ever reach them. So I pressume that's the reason the xbox shuts it self ? I don't know if I boot to NXE if it will tell me about overheat problem cause I always boot to FSD directly. Also I changed them back to default and only use the FSD fan speed overide.

Did you replace the thermal compound or did you just reuse the old? Never ever reuse the old.... Clean it off and replace... Always.
yea,but without taking the heat spreader off and replacing that too......kinda moot.

I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and re-applied thermal paste. Also I put the dashlaunch temps back to the original values. ablegepu I can't get any error code because my screen is black and the only indication I have, was the solid red dot because mine is a slim corona version. Now I don't know what else to do but my xbox turns on, but I don't know how to test if the problem is fixed or not. I playied for 5 minutes without crashing and the temps where more stable than before like with 70% fan speed (quite loud) and playing Forza horizon 2, the temps were 45.5 - 46 - 33 - 29.7 and only climped about 0.1-0.6 maximum. Also I read that solid red dot means problem with a periferal.

I never reuse old paste. Always clean it and re-apply, but since I never took off the heat sink I thought it was ok. Anyway I already changed the paste and will see. Thanks though XD

False alarm. I just tried to turn it on and I just get solid red dot out of the blue. So I think my console is basted for some crazy reason. I'll check again tomorrow to see if still doing it andif yes, I'll just wait a hack for the resent slim that got out and get a new one since mine is most certenly doesn't have warranty anymore and I really won't waste money on repairs on a console that old. Thanks for the replies anyway. :)

You read at the bottom of the page in the link I posted it ells you how to get the secondary error code for rdod or rrod consoles. Use the sync and eject buttons to get the secondary error code as the guide says and post what code it gives you and we may be able to help you further.

Your HDD may be showing the first signs of failure. Try removing the HDD and any other accessories from the console and see if it runs then.

It isn't the hdd because is brand new. Unlesh the data inside are fragmented the way they were send from ftp because Filezilla were senting them two at the same time I don't think that's the cause.

I get 0010 (4 green - 4 green - 1 green - 4 green). So my Southbridge is faulty, considering that it is only used for 3-4 weeks maximum I can't understand how that happened .....

Edit 1: I just opened my xbox to prepare it for reflow and I just noticed a tiny scratch over some lanes from the southbridge that I didn't noticed before. Upon further examination I found that the lanes beneath are cracked, so that answers why I get southbridge error code. The only think I don't understand is how that happened.

I don't plan on fixin something so small as a data line cause it's imposible to solder or use wire to bridge the connections.

If by data line you are referring to the trace, its not impossible at all. It's actually quite easy. Good flux, kynar wire, steady hand, plenty of practice, hot glue.

Unfortunantly, steady hands and practice in something so small is something that I don't have XD. Nevermind, I'll keep it for spare parts and replacements if I ever need to repair a Slim in the future. Either way I would get a new one because I really meshed up that motherboard already 2-3 times. My only consern is how I can avoid getting a Winchester Xbox 360 Slim, since there isn't any glitch chip yet. Unlesh you guys are cooking something in the backroom ;).

got some pics of the damage by chance?

Is that really necessary after removing the heatsync?
was thinking he was going to reflow it for some reason :/
