How to tell if your motherboard is no good?

Hey... I bought the Xecuter 3 with the LPC Rebuild, but only to follow the directions that didn't use the rebuild (I was unaware of what it was and figured everything I'd need to know would be in the directions) so I did a wire install.

When I put everything back and tried to turn the power on, nothing happens. I realize that the common fix is to replace the transistor... BUT

When I did this, I hadn't really consulted these forums and just used the directions for the X3 install on a v1.6 xbox, so I didn't know you should use a maximum of 15 watt soldering iron and I used the one I already had (a 40 watt). So my question is... is there a way to tell if the motherboard is f**ked by just physical appearance?

By looking at it, I can't notice any damage except you can see some heat damage around where I soldered the Pin header.

So... if my motherboard is potentially still alive, what would everyone suggest I do? Is it feasible to unsolder (don't know if that's even a word) the wires and put the rebuild over it after replacing the transistor?

And if my motherboard is f**ked, all I really need if I buy another motherboard from llama for the install is another pin header... is there a place to buy one?

Do you get any sign of life from it if so its alive and if its not going anything then it is the motherboard. If there is no power then its probably the power surply (I had this dilemar after I touched the power surply, owwy and it was power surply). The reason u dont use any higher than a 15 wats is that higher wat means more heat and can damage the baord it is mutch easier to control a 15wat I use 30 wat so u can do it with any watt long as its not a gun, just be carefull. :D

When I hit the power button, absolutely NOTHING happens. I'm sure I need to replace the transistor but I was just wondering if there's a way to physically tell if the motherboard is f**ked. Like where at on the motherboard is it OK and not OK for it to show minor heat damage? I guess it's just so I don't get my hopes up that a $1.50 transistor is going to fix my problem if my motherboard is probably no good.

If its anything like the problem I had which sounds similar it is the power surply. I recommend buying a cheap power surply of ebay, if it doesnt work sell it on. The u know. :D

So is there any place to buy an extra pin header if it comes down to me having to buy a new motherboard and installing the x3 on it?

And are you implying a bad IDE cable? How could that have happened during modding the board?

Re: Update question...

what's the secondary error code.....

hold the sync button down and press the eject button 4 times.
note the flashing lights
4 flashing lights is 0
1=1
2=2
3=3

write the error code down. and let us know what it is.

Re: Update question...

Thanks mightywiz, the error code it´s 0102.
But something strange is happening here. I apply the method of clear any failed system update two times. The first time it boots normal and freezes, then I restart and the red lights back. Then I try again and now it starts normal as nothing happened.
¿Whats going on here? hehe

Re: Update question...

your starting to have 3rod issues, your unit was probably towel tricked
then sold to you.....

you'll have to do the x-clamp mod on the gpu chip and replace the thermal paste on the cpu to fix it.

Re: Update question...

Ok mightywiz, thanks for the help.
Oh one more question, since it have the former owner profile,
¿Can I revert the 360 to factory settings only with
choosing Initial Setup on the dashboard without a problem?

¿Lose anything about the flash?

Re: Update question...

you would be fine with loading factory settings

the data on the motherboard does not interfere with the flash when restored
