Re: How To Update Your JTAG To Newest Dash 2.0.12625 .0 & The Latest Dash Launch

Thanks for the help so far guys nearly there :)

Current state:

I followed the method in the post and create a FB I give it the original nand which has had another FB on it as I could not find my original nand.backup from the xbox.
It starts and then boots to Xell but does not boot to new dash :(
And I also tried the Xellous which does the same thing.
Either blue screens of the Xell or Xellous few faid requests and failed TFTP. So I'm assuming the the Blue screens are correct and would boot further if it could find the dashboard.

while I await feed back I try other options.

Past work:

I dumped the nand with nand-x
I put the nand dump into jtag v3.0 and went to the KV Info section and put the CPU key in and I got the serial as per the back of the box. So I think that means the dump was good :)

I then clicked create FB it created the new .bin which I wrote back with nand-x. pulled power from power supply and powered on again. The tv showed nothing xbox green lights started moving then 4 green lights then again green lights moving and then again 4 green lights and then all green lights went off and with no TV display. I tried this process with both nand-x and flash360 from usb.

SMC was set to original dash 12625, my box is xenon.
Now I'm writing new FB with Aud_Clamp for the SMC. - Okay Changing SMC did not do anything same result
Flashed back the original with first jtag fb loader and is still working :)

Maybe it has something to do with the resistors on the jtag from the nand-x kit?
I will try play with those now :)

when I write back the original from the back today the xbox works fine :)

again please note I'm not using the original dump that I first did to jtag the box but the KV is still the original if that makes any difference :) somebody said I need to apply the alternative soldering????

I'm getting error " fat open of xenon.elf "
with both Xellous and Xell.
I have copied the dashlauncher to the root of a USB stick.

Should it not just boot to a dash of writing the freeboot bin back? or does it require to boot from USB or HDD first? and if so what have I done wrong :(

Right thats more like it now you made a freeboot did you make it from the original nand that was dumped when it got Jtagged also did you select the right SMC Points and enter the right CPU Key for the said Jtag ?

You shouldn't think you should know before you go making a freeboot that your using the right original nand.bin did you do the Jtag yourself or someone else did it, if someone else did it they would have giving you the nand.bin and the CPU & Dvd Key with it thats what you have to use.
So if you have the nand.bin open Jtag tool enter the right CPU Key double check it to make sure it right and click Write Bin then select the original nand.bin and it will write it back.
Then power cycle the jtag and it should boot up to the dash if it does you need to make the fb the right way with the right CPU Key and the right SMC Points selected.

lol i seen your post with MWN which is what i was also telling you if you have Alternate JTAG SMC Points then the fb needs to be made that way you also never said you had no DVD drive connected which means it has to be made with NO DVD selected or that you had no original nand.
If you want help you need to give full details all the time not a half of a story  anyway your sorted good stuff..;)

Re: How To Update Your JTAG To Newest Dash 2.0.12625 .0 & The Latest Dash Launch

Thanks for the tut, Johnny. Just used it to go from an xbr 8955 to 12625 w/freeboot.

Didn't have my original nand so I was a little worried. I dumped my current nand and used that in jtag tool to create a freeboot image. Crossed my fingers, flashed the update, and thankfully everything went better than expected. Updated dashlaunch to 2.21 and applied the avatar system update. Now I can play Mortal Kombat and Portal 2!

Thanks again for the thorough instructions, your help is very much appreciated.
Can any one else confirm this works???

I have a Flacon JTAG and do not have the original NAND dump (and never will get it), I do have the XBR 8955 NAND (I used Flash360 to get multiple good dumps).

Reason I am asking if using Coolshrimp's program works its much easier in terms updating firmware.

I am currently running FB 9199 but I did it the hard way using ibuild to extract kv.bin, smc.bin and smc_config.bin to then recompile it with FB 9199 and use Flash360 to re-write the nand.

This worked getting my machine running FB 9199 but Coolshrip's tool makes it look sooooooooo much easier.

What was wrong with one guy confirming it? He was instructed by a moderator, so of course it works...

Sorry I missed one part in my previous post. Following the steps above, I get the following error when ibuild starts:

Could not find file "sysupdate.xexp1"

And I am guessing this error occurs because this is not the original nand.

Hence confirming if this works, and if others using XBR 8955 get this error using Jtag Tool.

Is the avatar update the same as the previous dash? I have the $$ystemUpdate folder on the root of my usb, but my jtag isn't picking it up at all when I boot.
